Hi Everyone I have been seperated from husband for 3.5 years, we have never got a legal seperation, husband doesen't feel we need one. Two years after we seperated husband signed the house over to me all thru a lawyer and all other bills we had together have been paid. My husband has accumalated alot of debt since our parting and I was wondering if I am responsilbe for that as I filed seperated on my income taxes etc, as far as maintenance for the children we have a written agreement between the two of us and that has worked well. All through our seperation husband does not want to work on reconcile likes his life etc. I don't have the funds to file for divorce or legal seperation and I don't qualify for subsidy's as I make a few more dollars that the qualifing level. So if any of you know how the laws work here in Alberta I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks<p> Jazz

You should file!! I'm pretty sure you can be at least bothered by creditors as you are still married. I'tll cost you about $500. to file legalily, you don't have top complete but it will protect you against any judgments. If he signs the supplied documents you can be divorced in 4 weeks with no hassles. I did just to protect myself.

Sorry, to follow up, I'm from British Columbia. I filed as single the entire 15 yr marriage, BUT--if HE runs up debt you can still be held accountable if it goes to court!!
