Largest Tumor Removed Intact

The largest tumor ever removed intact was a multicystic mass of the right ovary weighing 137.6 kg (303 lb). The operation, which took over six hours, was performed by Professor Katherine O'Hanlan of Stanford University Medical Center, California, USA. The growth had a diameter of 1 m (3 ft) and was removed in its entirety in October 1991 from the abdomen of an unnamed 34-year-old woman. The patient – who weighed 95 kg (210 lb) after the operation and has made a full recovery – left the operating theater on one stretcher and the cyst left on another.

NOW THAT'S WEIGHT LOSS FOR Ya.......

Have a great weekend.

They actually video taped it & had that on television. It was so gross. The tumor was as almost as large as the lady.

After the operation, they took the tumor to the lab. The Dr. called the lab and asked how much it weighed. After they told her 137.6 kg (303 lb), she asked them to weigh it without the gurney. They replied that is how they weighed it!

Chris,

Was that the tumor that sustained itself and had grown two hairs and a tooth?

I'm serious, it was on Ripley's believe it or Not, and it weighed (I think) 200 pounds. She couldn't even lay on her back!

The tooth and the hairs gave me nightmares... like that thing had a mind of its own! Creepy!!

As far as the tumor goes I know nothing about this specific tumor. However the thought that there were teeth and hair within it is absolutely true. This is called a teratoma. It is usually benign, therefor it can grow very large and not cause problems until its size is noticed. It has elements of the basis of all our body parts within it. Actually, before CT and MRI, they used to be diagnosed on regular radiographs by seeing a 'molar' tooth in the pelvis on the X-ray. haha

Largest mass I ever removed was a 37 lb. torsed "twisted" ovary. But I did remove a 52 lb breast during a mastectomy for breast cancer once. We quickly realized that we would have to do something about the other breast soon so she wouldn't have a lopsided stress on her back when she stood up.

Horses have a small almost round shape leathery growth mid inner-leg on all fours. They call it a a chestnut (layman terms). It's purpose is to eliminate or secrete poisions from their body (the kidney's I believe).

Whenever you buy a new Ford Product, buy the second half of the year. It will most times have a good number of the next years features added on.

The original alphabet had 27 letters - the letter was between M and N, and was called (phoneticly written since there *is* no letter for it)... ghoreh... and it looked like an upside down V.

Fox television tried to get an animated show on the air that was a cross between the Simpsons and the X Files - it was called Homerexual Files, and featured a bloated alian and his family fighting the odds to build a gay space station.

The first mailboxes were made out of buffalo muzzles.

The first cross-your-heart bras were made from burlap and fishing wire, and actually crossed somewhere around the spleen, not the heart.

Before kitchen magnets there were the far less popular 'toilet tank magnets'.

The Dogwood tree is the tree that was used for the wood that built the cross on which Jesus was nailed. The Dogwood tree now blumes flowers the shape of a cross as a reminder.
