I'd change that "probably would" to "might." It's so hard to guess.
Just might have just as likely decided WIWH really is the total jerk she thought, and told the kids that the reason they couldn't have new sneakers for school was because daddy wouldn't give them any money.

I agree though GG. I think she would have just gotten more p!ssed off at me. As it was she got mad at me for everything for years.
Even now, she gets mad anytime the issue of me needing money comes up.
