You know I hate to over look the obvious, but I did. You did look through c:\Windows\TEMP already for all the files called .tmp, .txt or .dat and read them with notepad- right?

Well, I found software tools that will extact passwords from pst files ($97). But I just don't think it's worth it. Once you have the password, I'm still not sure how to get the data out.
I think tha tyour best bet would be to pay someone if you really want the emails. Here are two links to companies who claim to be able to extract data from a pst file. I am sure there is something available onthe web, but to find it would take forever.
http://www.ontrack.com/datarecovery/
http://www.diskdoctors.com/
If you use a local company, make sure they only charge if they extract data (emails).

I just stumbled upon something else I didn't know. Look in C:\Windows\History. Mine still has last week in it- yours might too. Look for one called My Computer under it and read through the cashe items for ones with Outlook Express or whatever email program you use icons next to it. - look for hotmail web pages etc too.

Nikko, if you have files on your system ending in .dbx or in .pst then he is using outlook for email. Outlook downloads all the email to your computer and stores them in those files. When an email is deleted, it goes into the deleted.dbx when it is trashed out of the 'deleted' folder it goes to the trash.dbx or trash.pst file and so on. I believe that the .pst file is a data base that contains all the mail, new, deleted and trashed.New mail goes to the inbox file etc. So the stuff is still on your computer. It does not go to the window trash folder.
You say that it looks like he has hotmail too. That is a different story... but that .pst file you found has all the old mail in it. I was able to read parts of an old .pst file on my computer with a hex editor (this is a piece of software that reads the computer codes (basically numbers) and translates them to text. But is was still not able to ready EVERY word in the emails. If all else fails, you could do that and extract at least some of it. I was able to get the email address and some of the message text, but not the dates.
If you find a way to get hotmail or yahoo passwords, could you let me know?
[ January 22, 2002: Message edited by: zorweb ]

Does anyone know how to get an AOL password? My husband uses AOL, I don't, and I know he has a bunch of stuff in his main mailbox, but I don't have the guts to as him for the password. We are almost 1 1/2 years past d-day, doing very well, and it feels like it's too late to just up and ask him for it without that being a big love buster.

Nikko,
I have used Spector Pro and I love it. It is very easy to set up and run in the background without detection.
You can go here and read my story about my H and his cheating online. Short story is my H was an online cheater, since April 2000. I finally purchased and downloaded this particular software program. It gave me a lot of evidence that I needed in order to confront my spouse in April 2001.
My H and I had our first counseling session with Jennifer here at Marriage Builders last night (she's the author of "Surviving an Affair"). She asked me if I used Spector and when I told her yes, she said good for you. Spector Pro can record all of the e-mails sent through his hotmail account (the original spector cannot do this). It can also get you the user names and passwords if he is using your PC for cheating. You can then access his Hotmail account.
Spector Pro is the newest version and it automatically takes hundreds of snapshots every hour. It is sold by SpectorSoft.
Spector Pro also includes TRUE email capture (SMTP and web-based email), TRUE chat and instant messenger capture, and a key logger. Spector Pro is the only program available that will capture web-based email such as Yahoo mail, Hotmail, Excite mail and AOL web based email.
Spector works by taking a snapshot of whatever is on the computer screen and saves it away in a hidden location on your computer's hard drive. A few seconds later, Spector takes another picture. In fact, Spector can automatically take a picture of your computer screen as frequently as once per second.
You get recordings of all chat conversations, instant messages, e-mails typed and read, all web sites visited, all programs/applications run, all keystrokes typed - EVERYTHING they do on the computer and on the Internet. You can come back to the computer a few minutes, a few hours, a few days or weeks later and SEE EXACTLY what they were doing, because Spector has recorded it.
Spector Pro costs $99.95 and is available for immediate download. Spector Pro is fully compatible with all versions of Windows since Windows 95, including Windows XP.
I know of no other spy software for Macs but Spector. You may not have a Mac but finding spy software for Mac users has been a past problem for some BS.
Anyway, start your investigation right there at home. He's bold enough to cheat right under your nose and he's thinks he is slick by trying to hide it. My H thought he was too, until I started naming off some of his online girlfriends and asking him about the significance of his relationship with each of them. The look on his face was priceless. I wish, though, I had never had to see that face. I wish he had never strayed.
I would also recommend reading "Surviving an Affair". In retrospect, I'm glad I discovered the truth so that we can now recover from his affairs and rebuild our marriage.
{{{nikko}}}
Bluebird
[ January 22, 2002: Message edited by: Bluebird ]

Many of the key stroke monitors, like the one sold at www.iopus.com will email the log files to any email account you designate. It will run in stelth mode.
But before you start putting anything on her work computer better check out the legal ramifications of this.
