... and the question is:

What is the ultimate romantic song to dance to?
Title and artist, please.

Here's a nomination......

Chances Are (Stillman/Allen)

Chances are 'cause I wear a silly grin
The moment you come into view,
Chances are you think that I'm in love with you.
Just because my composure sort of slips
The moment that your lips meet mine,
Chances are you think my heart's your Valentine.

Bridge:

In the magic of moonlight,
When I sigh, "Hold me close, dear,"
Chances are you believe the stars
That fill the skies are in my eyes.

Guess you feel you'll always be
The one and only one for me
And, if you think you could,
Well, chances are your chances are awfully good.

(Instrumental interlude and pick up at the bridge.)

In the magic of moonlight,
When I sigh, "Hold me close, dear,"
Chances are you believe the stars
That fill the skies are in my eyes.

Guess you feel you'll always be
The one and only one for me
And, if you think you could,
Well, chances are your chances are awfully good.

"Chances Are" performed by Johnny Mathis

OK, my turn:

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore and

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you

(trumpet instrumental)

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you
Love was made for me and you
Love was made for me and you

Songwriters: Milt Gabler & Bert Kaempfert
Artist: Nat King Cole

Bill Withers : Lovely Day Lyrics

When I wake up in the morning, love
And the sunlight hurts my eyes
And something without warning, love
Bears heavy on my mind

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day
... lovely day, lovely day, lovely day ...

When the day that lies ahead of me
Seems impossible to face
When someone else instead of me
Always seems to know the way

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day.....

When the day that lies ahead of me
Seems impossible to face
When someone else instead of me
Always seems to know the way

Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day...

You could get a recording of Nat King Cole singing the phone book and I would think it was absolutely beautiful.

I will look all these up. Thank you.

I am very well read, but musically I am afraid I am a dyed in the wool metal head and the most romantic thing I can come up with is the Titanic song (overplayed) and "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica. smile

Well you shoulda said that right upfront then smile . You can always listen to GNR's 14 years if you are in a cranky mood, or Scorpions' Send Me an Angel if you are not smile .

You can dance to Metallica?

Your original question asked for love songs one could dance to...

Sway - Peter Cincontti
Allways and forever--- A British group called Heatwave wrote this tune but many of us will remember Luther Vandross's version.

Always and forever
Each moment with you
Is just like a dream to me
That somehow came true, yeah

And I know tomorrow
Will still be the same
Cuz we got a life of love
That won't ever change and

[1] - Everyday love me your own special way
Melt all my heart away with a smile
Take time to tell me you really care
And we'll share tomorrow together
Ooh baby, I'll always love you forever

Ever, ever, ever
There'll always be sunshine
When I look at you
It's something I can't explain
Just the things that you do
If you get lonely
Call me and take
A second to give to me
That magic you make and

[Repeat 1]

[Ad lib until fade]

Just the first one that pops in mind.

There are too many to choose

Personally, I think 'Unchained Melody' and 'Tonight I Celebrate My Love' are probably the most beautiful songs I've ever heard

You can dance to Metallica, in a spasmic sort of way, but that's the point. NOT good valentines fair. Hence the question...

AND I have noticed it's on two forums. Don't know how I did that.....

Considering wxh and I got married on Valentine's day, I might dance to this. I actually like the swing to this version.

I think the women of the world owe Chubby Checker a great debt of gratitude. Thanks to him, we can hit the dance floor without a partner.

Maybe this one....

Michael Buble has a gorgeous....does a lot of standards

Oh dear, sorting, I didn't mean to sound so cross. I thought I was being funny. I must use smilies more! grin

I see from what you have written that Luther Vandross must have recorded a version of this. I have never heard it! We have radio stations here that play endless "mellow" music, and they always play the Heatwave version. I suppose your stations favour Luther's.

He is a beautiful singer. I must listen out for that one.

My favourite "wait until we're alone" song is Bachrach and David's The Look of Love. Dionne Warwick and Dusty Springfield both recorded it, and I like both.

Actually its words would be perfect for a newlywed couple's first dance at the wedding reception. It speaks of waiting, finding and never letting go.

Elvis...Can't Help Falling in Love w/you
as long as your talking about Luther..She Loves Me Back is fun

You people don't know good music! Here is a REAL SEXY Texas song that aims to please. smile

Can't go home if you're going by the mill
Cause the bridge' washed out at the bottom of the hill
Big Creek's up, Little Creek's level,
Plow my corn with a double shovel

(Chorus:)
Stay all night, stay a little longer
Dance all night, dance a little longer
Pull off your coat, throw it in the corner
Don't see why you can't stay a little longer.

Sitting in the window, singing to my love
Slop bucket fell from the window up above
Mule and the grasshopper eatin ice cream
Mule got sick, so they laid him on the green

You ought to see my Blue Eyed Sally
She lives way down on Shinbone Alley
Number on the gate, the number on the door
The next house over is the grocery store.

Grab your partner, pat her on the head
If she don't like biscuits, feed her cornbread
Girls around Big Creek, 'bout half grown
Jump on a man like a dog on a bone

Another Texas heart warmer! smile

I used to sing that elvis tune all the time lol.

Truthfully I could be here all night and day talking about love songs. Their are so many that are touching that I don't think I could ever say I had a favorite.

Lol I didn't take the correction in the wrong spirit. I just want to give credit where its due.
Lyrics are very important to me in music also. If the lyrics and the tune match then it speaks volumes.

(Do Do Doo.. Da da da.. is all I want to say to you..

Do Doo Do ..da DA dA .. the meaningless is all thats true..)--The Police

rotflmao

Poets priests and politicians....all have words for thier positions..words that scream for your submissions...and no-ones doubbting their traditions.

But when the eloquence escapes you..their logic ties you up and rapes you...Do Do Do.. la Da da da..............and so on

This from memory so it is prolly not completly correct

When I was a kid I had "cheatin heart" playing in my room many times. Hey Mel do you like both kinds of music, country and western?
I gotta admit country music will make me cry more than any.
What will happen if I play a country music album backwards I wonder...

And just so you all believe me...

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters

Posted By: NCWalker Re: Valentine's is fast approaching ... - 01/31/10 04:08 AM
And so you don't think I don't know what I am doing, here is my contribution:

DJ Sammy - Heaven (yes, the Bryan Adams song, BUT she does it WAY better on the piano - no guitar, beautiful)

UB40 Can't Help Falling In Love With You (Yes, the Elvis song, but Elvis' version is overplayed)

Chicago - If You Leave Me Now

Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight

Spandau Ballet - True

The Cure - Pictures of You
All very nice songs too

faint
Im sitting here listening to an 80s radio station and so many old love songs, cry
I never had an "our song" with my two marriages. Its sad cuz seems like all I did was work so hard for the day I could proudly celibrate the romance I so wanted to have with my late wife. To be financially secure and able to spend time with her.
I hope those of you who have the oportunity to celibrate your love for each other will go all out this valentines day...

OH.. REO Speedwagon-- I can't fight this feeling anymore... just came on. Crap thats a tear jerker for me. But then.. To have love and lost is better than to never have loved, and nothing lasts forever which makes it so much more precious

And even as I wander I'm keeping you in site,
your a candle in the window on a dark and stormy night
and Im getting closer than I ever thought i might.

cmon thats classic huh?
some pppl are made for each other
some ppl can love one another
for life
how bout us
some ppl can hold it together
man through all kinds of weather
how about us
how bout us baby

They had to call themselves the Detroit Spinners over here, because we already had The Spinners. Remember the little ditty Black and White?

The page is black
The ink is white
Together we learn to read and write...

That was OUR Spinners.

The Detroit ones were SO much better!
Ok dumb radio station just blew it
They played that song... If I could fly

"She's just 16 years old, leave her alone they say..
sepaerated by fools, who don't know what love is yet..

blah blah blah ..but if I could I'd pick you up, and carry you into the sky and showw youu showw youu... a loveee...."

What a disgusting pimp me daddy song, and a grown male is singin it puke

just goes to show you, somewhere back in the 80s a young girl was working two jobs to put herself through school and the guy who sings this makes bookoo bucks... is my math bad or what? Sex sells.

Okay, I'm going to have to vote for the "Chances Are", not only is it beautiful, but in my mind I can hear my BF singing it and he has a beautiful voice that makes my heart flutter.

Good morning, friends.

These aren't dance songs necessarily but, in honor of the upcoming day, I give you National Public Radio's "Make Out List" from 2009.

If I can find their un-love song list, I'll post that link, too.

ah.....couldn't find it. But here are some options...

Rhino Records - 'Anti-love Songs'.

Songs for Heartbreakers

Betty Davis lays down one ever-lovin' funky 'Anti-Love' song!

Everything from the lover's lament to full-fledged hurt made musical.

Bit late now as the day has dawned but I'd have chosen Aerosmith "Don't want to miss a Thing".
Posted By: Rikinator Re: Valentine's is fast approaching ... - 02/14/10 03:16 AM
Are you using my MP3 player? I listened to all those songs today!
Posted By: cinderella Re: Valentine's is fast approaching ... - 04/27/10 06:17 PM
Darn, 2 months later....and we don't know if he used any of those songs or if this was just a question to get us to talk.
