I feel sick right now, my new digital camera was stolen in the restaurant tonight. I picked up the the to go bags and must have left the camera on the table. When I got out to the car, I realized that I didn't have it & went back in. They were just setting up for the next customer but NO camera.

I haven't had such a great present in years & it's gone 5 days after Christmas. GRRRr I feel so stupid.

OK, here's the question Can I file insurance on the restaurant's policy? My homeowners deductible is more than the camera so that doesn't do me any good.

Any advice
Thanks so much for any responses,

D.

WIGTT,

Have you checked with your agent? You may not have a deductible on off primises coverage.

Regarding the restaurant insurance... They are the only ones who can choose to file under their policy. I doubt they would do it too. A person can't force another person to file with their insurance company.

You could take the restaurant to court but you have to prove neglegence on the restaurants part, and I doubt you can do that.

Sorry about your loss, I would feel sick too. I wish I could be more help.

Take care,

ANNA

Ohhh also, one more side note...

Was it paid for with a credit card?

Check to see if the credit card has coverage. You may be surprised that it does.

Anna,

Thanks for the quick response.

I have not checked with my insurance yet but I will in the morning.

It was paid for by a discover card so I will check with them as well. I know AM/EX used to cover something like this but not sure if Dscvr does.

This at least gives me something to check into and some hope. (a little)

Hi WillGetThruThis,

One other suggestion. Once you replace your camera, ask you agent about a policy on the camera itself. Even if the cost of the camera were higher than your homeowner's deductible, it is not covered for things like dropping it and breaking it, (or leaving it on a fencepost out in the woods while filming birds or such...) It's called a Personal Articles Policy; some companies add it as a rider to your homeowner's policy. But the PAP would probably run you less that $30 per year, and that's usually with no deductible. I have one on my digital camera and on my jewelry too. I work in insurance, and I write a lot of these little policies. Great thing to have!

Just a thought; and so sorry about your loss.

I wish we would have had that on my earring. My H used to wonder why I hardly ever wore them. We go to Vegas to get married. I bring them with. (only wore for special occassion)

I think it went down the shower. We searched hi an low for it. I realized it was gone, while I was showering. Felt backing in my hair. I's still upset over it. It was the first expensive gift H ever gave me. My birthstone and everything. He thought I didn't like it because I did wear them. I had to explain I was so afraid of losing them, that I took them out for special occasions only. Look what happens when I do.

my move,

That sounds like a good suggestion and one that you have to know exists to take advantage of - so thanks for the info!

Sue with Hope,

That's a catch 22 - you want to wear and display the beautiful things in your life, yet there is always the possibility of loss. Yet when it does happen it hurts. I know they are only things... but still have feelings about them.

LI & Kily

I bought another one today, heck the tile for the cement floor can wait! I liked the camera soooo much. It's a big kid toy but I havn't had so much enjoyment from something in a loooong time. WH was the photographer and the last 3-4 years there are very few pics. The kids kept commenting about no pictures so this is really important for me to preserve a sense of family.

When I get home, I am going to get the personal articles policy. Too late for the other camera. We are going back to the restaurant and see if they will chip in to cost of replacement. Homeowners deductible too high & didn't cover.

The information received on this board was helpful - it's amazing how fast we can get information and questions answered as we have such a variety of posters on these boards!

Kily,

I know you know how it feels - IT SUCKS

Thanks everyone..

Good for you. You got a new camera. You are surely taking charge with your life. If it makes you happy, then do it. Congratualtions with the new toy. Enjoy it and please send pictures from Florida when you get back.
