Good morning ladies!!

Mark your calendars for March 28th, "Me Day"!!!!

"Me Day" is one national day dedicated to the personal health and well being of women. It's a day you’re encouraged to take a break from caring for others and take more care of "me."

This day is supported and sponsored by WE: Women's Entertainment Television, Johnson & Johnson, Oprah Winfrey and the women's health education company- Lluminari.

Take care of yourself ladies, the 28th is all about you!

You go girls! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Well, what if others care for us, though? Do they get a "ME DAY" too? I'm pretty self indulgent as it is, I don't need any encouragement. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

WAT,

You are too funny!

OT to this post, I wanted to thank you again for a link you provided to me about 2 years ago to this great oncology site. I was able to forward it on to a family friend whos mom has aplastic anemia. He is a perfect match to be her bone marrow donner. Thanks!!!

Some people, especially here, need reminders to take care of themselves.

Happy Friday all!

Hi K - I vaguely remember that. Glad to help. But, a child is a perfect match for a parent? This would be highly unusual. Non-identical, same parent siblings, 25% chance. Maybe some understandable confusion?

WAT,
That's what he said. Children are ususally NOT a match.

He said they usually don't type the children, because it is rare to find a match, being that genes from both parents combine. They have 11 requirements; blood type, 4 minor keys, and 6 major keys. They need to match at least 5 out of the 6 major keys, so that there is less chance of rejection by the bone. He was informed by the hospital he is the perfect match all 10 keys.

I don't understand it all, but that's what I've been told. Does that help explain a bit?

I understand this a lot more than I would like - my deceased son had two autologous (self donor) BMTs - and I observed close up other BMT patients and families who went through the process using donors. It's just hard to believe that a child could be a match for a parent for the reason you state. Are they from West Virginia? (sorry, bad joke)
