We all have those moments - when you want to wallow. When you want to listen to the words of your favorite depressing song....and simply wallow.
Please, no mushy love songs - I think that'd be too much. Maybe some 'done me wrong' songs. And NO "I will survive"!!!
I don't want to wallow as much anymore since the anti-D's are kicking in, but I still think about it.
So.....anyone have some ideas for possible submissions?

I'm in a very different situation at this point in my stbxM... but still... liking to wallow now and then or not... I don't think this is a healthy outlet at all. IMO, it's extremely UNhealthy to want to make an entire cd's worth of songs to make you wallow.
One of the main lessons we learn at MB is to work on ourselves. Focusing on the A does NOT get us anywhere. Yes, we must mourn what is lost, but we must also continue moving forward. Setting yourself up for failure by creating this cd, just seems odd to me.
But then again, being my own devil's advocate...perhaps just making the cd will be enough closure for you. Perhaps you could listen to it once, then smash it with a hammer? Now THAT, IMO, is healthy! LOL. (no, I am NOT condoning violence... just the strong symbolism of ending something).
I do not have any songs to suggest. I tend to stay more upbeat with my music nowadays, although there are some songs that still make me want to cry (specifically "You'll be in my heart" by Phil Collins from the "Tarzan" soundtrack... I used to sing it with my son who is now deceased).

I honestly don't listen to music anymore these days.Almost evey single song has some reminder of what I am going through. If I wallow anymore I will just go down that dark road that I do not want to anymore.
Like Topie said I need to stay focused on my children and helping myself.A while back I did like the song by Blu Cantrell: Hit Em up Style. That seemed to fit.

"You Ain't Woman Enough to Take my Man" --Loretta Lynn
"Don't Mess with My Man" --Nivea w/Jagged Edge
"You Oughta Know" --Alanis Morissette
I know there's more, just have to think of 'em... Yes, my musical tastes are a little varied--lol.

I made my hubby and myself an awesome CD with a few songs from THIS thread...I also threw in a few of my own as well. Patience by ...oh cant think of the name of the group...is a great song too...not listed on this thread either. I still listen to this CD...I really helps me thru those rough times. Songs just seem to calm me down a lot...but that is JMHO [ April 07, 2004, 02:45 PM: Message edited by: momto3boys ]

Thought of a few more--
"Don't Care Anymore" --Phil Collins (maybe Genesis? it's an old one)
"Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" --Fuel
"Here's a Quarter" --Travis Tritt
"Not Gon' Cry" --Mary J. Blige
"Kiss This" --Aaron Tippin
"Survivor" --Destiny's Child
"Gotta Get Thru This" --Daniel Beddingfield
Some of them really apply, some are ones that I just found myself listening to more when I was in a PO'ed phase. These are the tame ones.
There's some good ones on the thread momto3boys linked to also--couldn't believe "F*** it" was there tho! That's one of the first ones I thought of, but didn't know how folks here would take it.

Thanks everyone for some great ideas.
And thanks, mom, for posting the link to that thread - I'll be including some of those.

Allowing myself to cry a little bit sometimes seems to help me through some rough patches. You know, when I'm on the treadmill, and have NOTHING better to do than think about my life.... Truly, this is not going to be a cd in great rotation in my house - but it will be a reminder of this stage of my life. Making cd's is kind of like journaling for me. I still journal (not as much as I should), but music is just a life connector for me.
If it makes you feel better, I also have cd's I have created for going out at night, roadtrips, and mellow times when I'm sittin' on the beach enjoying a cocktail.
Please keep adding to the list if you've got more ideas......

A couple of suggestions:
"Untouchable Face" by Ani DeFranco:
F*** you, and your untouchable face, and F*** you, for existing in the first place...
"How You Remind Me" by Nickelback:
It's not like you to say sorry I was waiting on a different story This time I'm mistaken For handing you a heart worth breakin'
... And, who could forget:
"Your Time is Gonna Come" by Led Zeppelin:
Lyin', cheatin', hurtin', that's all you seem to do Messin' around with every guy in town, Puttin' me down for thinkin' of someone new. Always the same, playin' your game, Drive me insane, trouble is gonna come to you, One of these days and it won't be long, You'll look for me but baby, I'll be gone.

Oh, and Momto3, good call on the Guns N' Roses... if you want some mindless, angry, blistering screed that's mildly appropriate to the situation, check out a few of theirs:
Don't Damn Me Shotgun Blues Get in the Ring You Could Be Mine ("...but you're way out of line...")

needless to say I started crying! he was very sad too after listing to it!
Suspicious minds by Elvis Presley
We’re caught in a trap I can’t walk out Because I love you too much baby
Why can’t you see What you’re doing to me When you don’t believe a word I say?
We can’t go on together With suspicious minds And we can’t build our dreams On suspicious minds
So, if an old friend I know Drops by to say hello Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?
Here we go again Asking where I’ve been You can’t see these tears are real I’m crying
We can’t go on together With suspicious minds And be can’t build our dreams On suspicious minds
Oh let our love survive Or dry the tears from your eyes Let’s don’t let a good thing die
When honey, you know I’ve never lied to you Mmm yeah, yeah

Lyin' Eyes...by the Eagles
City girls just seem to find out early How to open doors with just a smile A rich old man and she won’t have to worry She’ll dress up all in lace and go in style
Late at night a big old house gets lonely I guess every form of refuge has its price And it breaks her heart to think her love is only Given to a man with hands as cold as ice
So she tells him she must go out for the evenin’ To comfort an old friend who’s feelin’ down But he knows where she’s goin’ as she’s leavin’ She is headed for the cheatin’ side of town
You can’t hide your lyin’ eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you’d realize There ain’t no way to hide your lyin’ eyes
On the other side of town a boy is waitin’ With fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal She drives on through the night anticipatin’ ‘Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel
She rushes to his arms, they fall together She whispers that it’s only for awhile She swears that soon she’ll be comin’ back forever She pulls away and leaves him with a smile
You can’t hide your lyin’ eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you’d realize There ain’t no way to hide you lyin’ eyes
She gets up and pours herself a strong one And stares out at the stars up in the sky Another night, it’s gonna be a long one She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry
She wonders how it ever got this crazy She thinks about a boy she knew in school Did she get tired or did she just get lazy She’s so far gone she feels just like a fool
My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things You set it up so well, so carefully Ain’t it funny how your new life didn’t change things You’re still the same old girl you used to be
You can’t hide your lyin’ eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you’d realize There ain’t no way to hide your lyin’ eyes There ain’t no way to hide your lyin’ eyes Honey, you can’t hide your lyin’ eyes

I "found" this one after TBXW dropped the bomb. Printed out the lyrics so I could learn them; TBXW (while we were still nominally trying to rebuild) told me she liked the song. I mentioned that it was exactly about us. See what you think:
"The Queen and the Soldier" by Suzanne Vega
The soldier came knocking upon the queen's door He said, I am not fighting for you any more The queen knew she'd seen his face someplace before And slowly she let him inside.
He said, I've watched your palace up here on the hill And I've wondered who's the woman for whom we all kill But I am leaving tomorrow and you can do what you will Only first I am asking you why.
Down the long narrow hall he was led Into her rooms with her tapestries red And she never once took the crown from her head She asked him there to sit down.
He said, I see you now, and you are so very young But I've seen more battles lost than I have battles won And I've got this intuition, says it's all for your fun And now will you tell me why?
The young queen, she fixed him with an arrogant eye She said, You won't understand, and you may as well not try But her face was a child's, and he thought she would cry But she closed herself up like a fan.
And she said, I've swallowed a secret burning thread It cuts me inside, and often I've bled He laid his hand then on top of her head And he bowed her down to the ground.
Tell me how hungry are you? How weak you must feel As you are living here alone, and you are never revealed But I won't march again on your battlefield And he took her to the window to see.
And the sun, it was gold, though the sky, it was gray And she wanted more than she ever could say But she knew how it frightened her, and she turned away And would not look at his face again.
And he said, I want to live as an honest man To get all I deserve and to give all I can And to love a young woman who I don't understand Your highness, your ways are very strange.
But the crown, it had fallen, and she thought she would break And she stood there, ashamed of the way her heart ached She took him to the doorstep and she asked him to wait She would only be a moment inside.
Out in the distance her order was heard And the soldier was killed, still waiting for her word And while the queen went on strangeling in the solitude she preferred The battle continued on
