I keep seeing people post that all affairs eventually end, but I know that is not the case. I know there are some where the WS and OP end up getting married. I was just wondering what, if any, the statistics were. I realize that 64% of statistics are made up right there on the spot.

STATISTICIAN'S BLUES
Todd Snider ©2002
==============
They say 3 percent of the people use 5 to 6 percent of their brain
97 percent use 3 percent and the rest goes down the drain
I’ll never know which one I am but I’ll bet you my last dime
99 percent think with 3 percent 100 percent of the time
64 percent of all the world’s statistics are made up right there on the spot
82.4 percent of people believe ‘em whether they’re accurate statistics or not
I don’t know what you believe but I do know there’s no doubt
I need another double shot of something 90 proof
I got too much to think about
Too much to think about
Too much to figure out
Stuck between hope and doubt
It’s too much to think about
They say 92 percent of everything you learned in school was just bull**** you’ll never need
84 percent of everything you got you bought to satisfy your greed
Because 90 percent of the world’s population links possessions to success
Even though 80 percent of the wealthiest 1 percent of the population
Drinks to an alarming excess
More money, more stress
It’s too much to think about
Too much to figure out
Stuck between hope and doubt
It’s too much to think about
Pick it now
84 percent of all statisticians truly hate their jobs
They say the average bank robber lives within say about 20 miles of the bank that he robs
There’s this little bank not far from here I’ve been watching now for a while
Lately all I can think about’s how bad I wanna go out in style
And it’s too much to think about
Too much to figure out
Stuck between hope and doubt
It’s too much to think about
That’s right... It’s too much to think about... Amen... It’s too much to think about... Mmm hmmm

MIF

MIF - There are statistics here somewhere. As I remember about 3 to 5% of affairs lead to marriage, and of those, 75% fail within 5 years.

Well, as an OP that eventually married a WS, I've searched for the answer to that "what if they really ARE ment for each other?" question.

The answer that I eventually found was.....a whopping 2%....2% of all affairs that end in a marriage "succeed", with the definition of "success" being that the couple stays married over 5 years.

So that implies of course, that eventually 98% of affair relationships, wither they lead to marriage or not, fail.

The relationships that "survive" that 2% statistic are often rumored to be very bad, with the partners staying married for reasons other than a wish to be together.

Some pretty slim statistical chance to base your lifetime happiness on eh?

If you're the gambling type that's not a bet you would want to take.

I kinda feel sorry for my WW now. I mean she is willing to throw away our marriage and tear our family apart for a 2-% chance at happiness. Of course, she may end up being one of those 2-3%

Dobie,

That was a scary, eye openining website. I actually felt kinda sick when I read the whole thing.

Well this doesn't really apply in my sitch as I believe that my WW doesn't want to be married any more. I think she wants the single life. Whooo hhoooo so much fun

MIF,

As a FOW, who was his exit affair I can tell you that nothing was pretty about our relationship once I found out he was married. For him or for me.

We gave it a good go, but I never trusted him after I found out he was married when I met him and I made him pay, and pay, and pay.

I probably was the cause of the end of our relationship, but I do not think that what is beget of lies can ever be anything positive.

I'm still trying to find something positive which came of it, but just really can't.

Unless two people end their marriages after "earning" their way out and then hooking up, I just don't see how it could ever work.

I used to balk at stats but I certainly see the truth in the affair working out statistics.

Sad? Yes it is very sad when someone leaves their home and marriage for something based on such ugliness. I mean what could be further from love than an affair?

weaver, I guess my sitch, or my WW's sitch rather, is a bit diff. Her OM knows she's married. He knows me (met a few times) so their relationship was not born on lies. They have been friends for about 8 yrs. prior to their involvement as more than friends.

Did your wife run home and tell you when she cheated on you for the first time? They might not have lied to each other, but they did lie. Both entered into a relationship with a known liar, cheater and betrayer. Not the normal qualities you would look for in a person. That is why A relationships rarely last.

The details perhaps are different, but it is still born on destruction, betrayal and deception.

They are DESTROYING a family with 3 children. What could be uglier than that?

And she was lying to you, she did forsake you and her children so she is not trustworthy in OM's eyes, and he did the same so he is not trustworthy in her eyes whether they see it now or not, this will erode and destroy whatever they think they have.

You cannot destroy a family, leaving three little ones and their dad (a friend and husband) in your wake and have a love which will last. It just ain't going to happen.

That's true. I didn't think of that. I was thinking along the lines of lying to each other because they are married and didn't want the other to know. That is true. One thing OM knows about my WW is that she will cheat on him too if things get bad. So he will always have that in the back of his mind.

MIF?
How am I doin'?
