I had to evacuate for a night, and the air quality is terrible, but otherwise am okay. I guess I haven't updated my thread for a while.

Foundareason lives in the San Diego area, but I can't remember exactly where.

We were evacuated and the fires scorched the hillsides right up to the backyards all around the neighborhood, but the fire jumped from across the street from my house down the hill a few blocks. No damage to any house in our immediate neighborhood.

We were told to evacuate, but we didn't go. Kept praying for the wind to continue blowing to the southwest and it did.

It's all a crap shoot. When the wind is blowing that hard, just pray you are not due west of the fire when it starts.

Monday was a very long day.

Orchid - I missed the whole thing. I'm in Seattle helping my mom take care of dad. Thankfully it didn't make it to our town, but one of the guys I work with lost his home. And wouldn't you know, he's a wonderful husband and father, and they had a happy home.

Aloha,

Thanks for your responses.

Hey Krusht, you gotta slow down when you're reading.

H was deployed to the SD area along with a few hundred other inspectors. So like in Katrina if you see a guy in an aloha shirt doing your inspections.... you can ask if he knows Orchid. If he smiles instead of looking at you funny, then you probably will have met H.

For all you who have damage, take advantage of the on-line registration to file your claim. There are inspectors on standby waiting to verify your status. Tell your friends as well. It is good to be able to get aid to those in need.

Not sure if smoke damage qualifies for any help. You can ask when you apply.

You are all people of integrity so I know this offer will be put to the correct use.

Here are a few sites that may help:

take care,

Hi,

Just to clarify. The info provided is just that, info only.

I believe communication is important and in cases of disasters getting the right help to the right people is vital.

In the case of the inspections, it is important each case be treated fairly.

Thanks,
L.

Thanks for asking, Orchid. Our neighborhood is far from the fires.

DS is in college. Their dorm room stunk from smoke that blew from miles away fires, it didn't actually get close to them. Son stuck a towel under the door to keep smoke out, and one of his roomies has an air filter that they turned on full blast. They loaded up DS's car with bottled water, textbooks, and were ready to leave (there are 4 in a room) at a moment's notice. Never had to.

Bless you for thinking of us.
