I went with my girls (husband, as per usual unavailable) to a state park in Nj...Hucklebarney. I remember going there as a child with picincs and dipping in the little springs along the stoney river. Well...being winter...it wasn't quite so nice. Still..packing a bag with thermoses of soup and hiking down trails...spending some techno-free time...a GREAT way to reconnect with my girls I love every minute, as I think they did too. I think it is somehow a relief for them to be able to "let down" and just be kids (even as pre-teens) amongst siblings. I just wish their father would take it more seriously and MAKE the time. Their childhood is SO short. It scares me.
