For a number of reasons I have gone to my doctor today and have decided to go on Wellbutrin, anyone else tried it with any success.
I have never been on anything like this, but lately I have been struggling a little with coping through husband's affair, recovery and health issues....losing my hair has been huge for the self esteem......
What might the effects be, how quickly and side effects......weight gain?
Any info would be helpful, I don't know anyone on meds like this......so I know nothing about how long it takes........how does it make you feel.......
thanks jessi

Jessi - I was on Wellbutrin for about a year before dropping it. My experience while on it was it made me feel like that creative part of my brain was cut off. That spontaneous part of me was dulled. It also gave me headaches if I missed a dose and I had about 3 days of bad headaches getting off of it. I also gained about 30lbs.

I've also been on Effexor XR. Horrid stuff. I gained about a hundred pounds and had over a month of withdrawal symptoms.

I am on nothing now but exercise and meditation and prayer. The exercise really helps. I find that long walks or hikes suit me best. Something about the repetitive one foot in front of the other and steady breath that let's me relax.

I do have bad days sometimes but my wife has codewords/safewords to let me know I'm having a bad time. I can't tell sometimes. Then I go walk.

I hope it helps jessi! I know the folks here really appreciate your guidance!!

I was on Wellbutrin for probably 8-10 years. I was put on it before I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor because they couldn't figure out WTH was wrong with me.

I had ZERO side effects from it. Not one. No weight gain, no dreaded sexual side effects, nothing. I had a few weepy days when I weaned off of it but then I was completely back to "normal".

I think it's a wonder drug. I raised my dose REALLY high during my H's A and recovery and I didn't even have side effects then.

No personal experience, so I whipped out my drug guide;

Uses: Treatment of depression, smoking cessation.
Unlabeled uses; Treatement of adult ADHD, to increase sexual desire in women. (skeptical)

No alcohol. Take in evenly spaced time incriments. Keep up oral hygeine. Use sunscreen when out in the sun. Monitor your mood and follow up with your physician. Don't drive after taking it until you know how it affects you.

Most of that your physician or nurse should have told you.

ALL ADs say "no alcohol". I never had a problem having a few drinks while I was on it.

"Keep up oral hygiene". WTH!?!? As if you might otherwise just go "screw this, I'm not brushing my teeth now that I'm on Wellbutrin!". LOL

I believe it's to combat the side effect of dry mouth. It's in the education section for any medication that has that side effect.
