Well, let me preface this by saying it's pretty long. It's not a poem, but it's the things God has taught me over these past 9 months since dday. I'm actually thinking of writing a book about it. I look back and see how naive I was...I want to someday help others in that same position.

:2 months past divorce:

Things God has taught me...

Never take someone for granted; you don't know when you will lose them
There's more to life than money
Anything placed above your spouse isn't something God intended or that you need
There's much more to learn about someone than you realize
Happiness can never be filled by the world or anything from it
Grocery shopping by yourself isn't much fun
Chores are much more enjoyable when you have someone to do them with
Learning to communicate isn't optional, it's a necessity
Things that looked like fun when God wasn't first suddenly seem quite dull and unattractive now that the blinders are off
Prayer has a very real impact in our lives
If you give your life to God to be used, he will certainly use you
Being outside is much more relaxing and enjoyable than I ever imagined
Our God is a God of second chances
A relationship without God will leave you feeling empty and unsatisfied
Sin is much more powerful than I thought
Satan is actively looking for ways to destroy the happiness God gives
Listening is a very underrated quality
Nice vacations are something everyone needs in life
Taking walks is a great way to reflect
Life is too short not to do enjoyable things
A good relationship with in-laws is a gift
There are things in life you can't control and can only trust God with
Disagreements look quite different when you look at them from the other person’s perspective
God has given us each amazing but different personalities we need to admire rather than change
It's fun to sit in our backyard and look up at the stars
Loneliness is one of the worst things you can experience in life
Being a good husband involves a lot more than just bringing home a big paycheck
You never realize just how much you enjoy hugs and kisses until you don't have them anymore
Spending Saturday mornings snuggling is one of the greatest times of the week
When you pray that God will "do whatever it takes" you can rest assured he will
If you make God do "whatever it takes" rather than submitting to his will, you will have pain and regret
Watching TV is a very overrated past time
Just because people look fine on the outside, there's a very real chance they are crying on the inside
Working full time and trying to do all the housework is way too much for one person
Your spouse’s opinion is something that should be valued and not rebuked
A marriage without romance for a woman is like a marriage without sex for a man
Wherever your marriage is weak, you can know that is where Satan will attack
Being a spiritual leader isn't optional
Becoming one with your spouse isn't something that just "happens"
When you look back, you won't remember the hardwood floors, TV shows, or video games. You will always remember quality time spent
The more close you become with your spouse the more enjoyable sex becomes
Interrupting is the quickest way to keep someone from sharing with you
Good intentions don't always make it right
Telling your wife you would like her to work out is like her telling you she would like you to grow a bigger package
Babies are actually fun to hold
You can't expect your wife to cleave if you don't give her anything to cleave to
God doesn't want me to lead an ordinary life
God has some crazy plans for using Jami
My love for Jami is unconditional
I've done pretty much everything wrong for the past several years
I will never make the same mistakes again
It feels wonderful to be wanted
Going camping would make a great weekend
Choose words carefully, you can't take them back
We have more blessings than I can count
Jami was an amazing Christian for several years without my support
Romantic dates need a high priority in marriage
Friendships are not something to be taken lightly
Give Satan a foothold and he'll do everything he can to destroy you
God has a plan and it's a lot better than mine
Holding hands is an easy way to brighten a day
Sex shouldn't be limited to nighttime in the bedroom
God loves us more than we can ever understand
Passion can last a lifetime
Having a quiet time is a wonderful way to put the day into perspective
God gives us blessings; it's up to us to accept them
