My wife for 20 years has told me that she needs to separate. Form many years she has been trying to get me to meet her needs. About 6 months ago she told me that she wanted a divorce if I didn’t change. I decided to change. I honestly did my best to meet her needs but she was unwilling to accept my change. Then a month ago she told me that she was in love with another man. I took it pretty well, I told her that I knew we could work it out. She agreed, but now she is having second thoughts. She says she needs to be on her own for a while to try and sort out her feelings. Should I continue to show her affection?
RBW

Hi,
Sorry no-one answered you earlier!
Kepp trying to give her affection? No, not if she doesn't like it right now. When you do the reading at this site, you will understand what I mean by that.
I suspect you tried to be the best you could the last six months, but you were unable to meet her needs, and that is why, to her, nothing has changed.
Read all you can here about Plan A, Love Bank, Emotional needs and Love Busters. Those things are a good start. Then find a busier board to post on...this one is slow. Try General Questions II or Emotional Needs. They are busier than this one. Take care.

It sounds like she still needs to know that you care. Don't smoher her with affection but let her know that you are still there and still love her. Give her some incentive to want to work things out!
