My husband and I have been married for a month and have been together now for four years. We have lived together for all but three months of those four years. He is usually such a positive and up-beat person, but lately I feel like something is bothering him. Whenever I ask, though, he gets short with me. His tone of voice is sarcastic, or quick. He has been working on a building project for his mother now for the past three years and I feel like he may be getting frustrated with the fact that it is taking up all his free time and that we are not getting anything done for us. At first he was really enjoying the project because it was something he had always wanted to do, but his mother keeps adding to or changing the project, so it feels like it will never be complete. It's frustrating for me, so I know it is frustrating for him, but he won't talk about it with me. When I ask him he makes me feel like I shouldn't ask.
Also, we have been looking for a house for ourselves and he acts depressed and unhappy about it. I wish he would cheer up because it is bringing me down and I don't know what to do about it.

Have you ever thought of the possibility that the thought of buying a home scares your husband? I know that when my husband and I purchased our home (just 13 months ago) he acted very 'odd'...a little like you say your husband is acting...short tempered...sarcastic...but when I finally got him to talk...he told me that he was just scared...with so many other bills...taking on a house payment was a big thing for him. As for getting him to talk to you...try sitting down with him at a time when he is in a good mood...or at least a better mood than normal...and tell him straight out that you are worried about him...that you are there for him ...and that communication is VITAL in keeping a marriage alive. Also..never start a sentance with "You"...i have found this is a fast way to end a conversation before it starts...(example: "You never talk to me anymore" or "You are always shutting me out!") try instead "I feel like we dont talk anymore".
