I'm licking my wounds. For the first time since I was 18, I have no date for Valentine's Day.

None.

And this Valentine's Day would have been my 25th Anniversary.

Since 1995, my date has been a friend I used to work with. She and I would go out and celebrate having outlived our marriages. Last spring she moved out of town. A few months ago, her bf moved in with her. This week he asked her to marry him and she said yes.

Today, I agreed to adjust visitation schedule so x and his w could have the evening together.

I haven't seen the diplomat since Thanksgiving. All is well there but, oh, I miss him.

cINDY,

Sorry you are dateless- me Too!
Even more sorry your close friend will probably be concentrating on building up her relationship now- leaves you out in the cold a bit.

I'm a bit sad myself, my birthday is up on 8 Feb, and Valentine's soon after.(never been big on Valentine's, but I understand the female perspective). Isn't it ironic how we go out of our ways to accomodate the EX??? Anyone else here do that? ( I have the kids on the 14th too)

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know you're in good company. Don't know about you, but I should be glad, I need to be away from female company for a while to come. Safer for me and them.

Lots of (((HUGS))) though, I'm sure you'll be fine. I intend sending my ex an anonymous Valentine's greeting, and keep the company of Uncle Jack Daniels.

I know that Valentines's Day is another trigger to deal with---do they ever stop??
My YD's birthday is Feb 15th (she'll be 17) so that will be a bit of a distraction, but except for last year, we always made V Day a nice celebration (or at least I thought so with the roses, dinners, etc).
Even last year we went out for the evening to a nice restaraunt for a special dinner, music, etc and I gave him a new wedding ring to replace the one he had lost. I had it engraved "Love never fails." Silly me, I still believe that.
One thing I know for sure - God's love doesn't fail.
So let's toast each other this Valentine's Day. We are in stellar company with the others on this board and we all KNOW what real love is!

The blues were made all the worse by having to spend almost all day yesterday with x at s's first chess tournament. He was civil. Never once said anything I felt was belittling. That's an accomplishment for him. And he was devastated by space shuttle loss.

But there were times when he wasn't kind to s. Maybe it was a man thing.

But he's ugly to me - verbally and emotionally. Or I'm overly sensitive. But he's gotten fat and ugly physically. And he found someone to marry him. But she doesn't really like children - how stupid can you be to marry a man who has children if you don't like them.

And the diplomat lives so far away.

Was telling my mom about this. She suggested we could go out. Yeah, I love her but who wants to spend valentines day with their mom? I'm lucky to have her and perhaps I should plan something fun for mom and children. After all, we have a cat for whom we have claimed Valentines's day as a birthday.

Even worse, looks like d won't be home that weekend. Wants to go for weekend with youth group from church. And is willing to pay part of her way. So, I'm willing to let her go if she does her homework and meets other obligations in the meantime.

The crowd is dwindling. Yuck.

Cinderella
Last time I didnt have date for VD was 1972

Where do you live??

Its even worse that it is on a weekend nite. My 2 children are also going to snow camp with church youth group. Same one WOL???

Last years VD day wasnt too good either. OW had her divorce papers served to her H and his BD is also on VD day. Great gift huh??? Then my H and OW left work early and spent afternoon celebrating. H showed up for his nite job extremely drunk and caused a scene with me when I showed up there to find out where he had been. ALL THE LIES...............

Im hoping my D lawyer will return the favor and serve my H his D papers on VDday. Missed his BD last week darn it.

Here's a laugh!!!!!!!!!

I joined an online dating thingie. I just thought it would be fun. At the very least get me back in practice talking/flirting with other men. For 24.95/month seemed like good entertainment value. At the best, maybe it does work, Im just being extremely cautious about it.

Anyhow have had some good conversations with 2 prospects but in checking matches this morning they emailed me a couple of new ones.

one, as soon as I saw picture I knew who it was before reading anything about him!!!! they rate him at a 97% match for me. He is my old boss!!!!!! :

still works right around corner from me. I work for the competition now and see him pretty often. Sometimes I have to go into his store for comparative shopping and we stand around and talk and he'll fill out my form so I dont have to go around and do all the work. Ill have to give him a call. How outrageous, I dont see myself seriously with him, but maybe we can have that VD date and laugh about it!

I just checked my calendar and realized that Feb. 14 is Valentine's Day... I always thought it was just my dog's birthday. Was this the real cause of her affair?? (He'll be nine, BTW.)

Cinderella, I'll be your platonic valentine. Not quite as much fun, I know, but you do the best you can.

The good news is I don't have to find the perfect gift. I must admit that I'm one of the men who think Valentine's Day is a product of Hallmark to sell greeting cards and knick-knacks. I've always been faintly resentful of this holiday.

Hey Jane-Elise!!

Thought I'd pop in and say HI!! My new, wonderful hubby is so romantic for Valentine's Day. Last year, it was flowers delivered to me at work. This year, it's a scanner/copier/printer/fax all-in-one combo!! LOL LOL But, it's something that I've been wanting so that's ok! LOL I'm thinking about posting an update thread soon. Maybe tonight.

Well, I am in the same shoes. Nothing for Valentines. Would like to have someone just to hold me, and hold me tight. Nothing. Will sleep with a cat probably, SHU-FU our black cat has been prone to sleeping in my bed.

Also, my youngest sons birthday Feb. 12. He wants sim city 4 or 1 year subscriptoin to Stars War. I will make him a birthday cake, no friends over. Doesn't want anyone over. Sort of a depression of a year. But hey, the wayward spouse is happy, who cares.

Valentines used to be a great day. I would make cards for dad, when the kids were little, and put their feet and hand in paint and put the print on the construction paper. Then put their name and age by the prints. I thought that was the best gift ever.

I guess this year, I will buy myself flowers, and take the day to relax. And do nothing. I see it is on Thursday. I will cancel all things to do, and just chill out. Maybe do something that I like, and nap, and just be me.

That is what you all can do. Do something you would love to do. I know, money is an issue with all of us. More of the same crap. But I deserve flowers, and I will get myself some flowers.

You all can do something for yourselves too. Take a long hot bubble bath, with good aloe vera bubbles, or something that is soothing. And soak in the tub, and read a good book. Darn, I didn't get one of those tub pillows yet. I hate not remembering what to do. I was never this bad.

But do something for yourself. You deserve it, and by the grace of the Lord, we will make this a day that is relaxing. Maybe not one to remember, but relaxing.

You have a date!

If I recall correctly, you have a son and a daughter...At least I hope I'm right.

Anyway, your d is out for the evening, that leaves you and your son, I think you have a wonderful valentines date there...AND...hehe...I think that diplomat of yours should consider gift certs for you and your son since he can't be there with you. Perhaps small hints will help.

I love taking my children out individually on dates. They do feel special when I do this also.

Take care,

ANNA

Hehe...as for me...I'm going dancing...now does anyone happen to have some spare time to teach me country and western dances...

I am letting d go off with group from church. That's $100. IRS is clamoring for $800 back from last year's refund. Thanks, x. Gotta pay life ins policy premium. Gotta pay son's school about $3000 by 4/1. Gotta do s's school financial aid package (tuition) but first have to do income tax.

I'm so bummed I can't handle it.

x blew out a knee this week. So, for up to 6 weeks, I don't have anyone to pick up children after school. After school care will be as much as $27/day if I don't get a plan. Hate to turn d into latch-key child. May have little other choice unless I count on the kindness of friends and grandparents-and the grandparents are in in mid-70s.

My mom would love to do something with my son and me for Valentine's day. I suppose that is the thing to do. In this city, forget going out to dinner unless they take reservations or you are very early or very late. And this year, it's on Friday making it even worse.

Too bad it would be my 25th anniversary.

Well, I'm working until midnight on Valentine's Day, so that will keep my mind off the fact that I don't have a date.

On the bright side, I'm getting paid a good chunk of change because no one else wants to work that night!

Didn't have a date last year, and the year before that I was drowning my sorrows because my divorce was official the next day!

On the bright side, I realized again today (after talking to the XW for the first time in a couple weeks) that I'm happy I'm not married to her anymore.

To top it all off, the Monday before V-Day will be my last date with the woman I've dated for the past 6 weeks...she's everything I could possibly hope for, and she leaves for Wisconsin on Wednesday.

On the bright side, there's a good chance that she'll be moving back in September, and she is damned well worth waiting for!

Noticing a pattern?

A couple of years ago, I wouldn't have been able to find a "bright side" to anything. Things are looking up!

p.s. One week from tonight (Tuesday the 11th) I'll be performing in my first stand-up showcase at the Tempe Improv...wish me luck!
