hello to all my friends here. i am just here to request some prayers please. i am a bit sad because i am being worked up for hypothyroid and most likely the cause is hashimoto's thyroiditis. i was thinking that it would all be solved with taking some thyroid hormone once a day forever, but after doing some research i think i found out more than i wanted to know. anyway, if you could just say a prayer for me that i can deal with whatever diagnosis i get, i would really appreciate it. thank you.
happy_girl

thanks everyone, i knew i could count on you. and i believe in the power of prayer. i know it is not some terrible diagnosis, i should be thankful it is not something like cancer, but when i read at a support site all the horror stories, i freaked. but when you think about it, the ones that have no problems (like you flowerseed) probably don't go to a support group. so i am determined to be like flowerseed, and just have to take my medicine and i will be fine.
my doctor finally called me and told me what i had already found out, but he is just going to order some more tests, a repeat of the previous one, and some antibody tests i think to determine if it is hashimoto's. and then if the repeat of my TSH is high again, he will start me on the medication. maybe then i will stop being so tired.
flowerseed~ does your regular doctor monitor your thyroid levels and your medication? or do you see an endocrinologist? just wondering if i should find one or just stick with my family doctor for awhile. though i don't think i want him really.
again thanks to all for your prayers.
happy_girl

happy,
I am terrible about going to doctors. I only go if I am really sick like close to death you know the type. I have always went to the family doc except when they had to do the blood test then I had to go to the hospital. I dont have any med insurance so unless I have any problems they only have to give me a check up once a year. I ran out of pills last year and went without them for a week and you can really feel the diffrence. You will be amazed at how quick they work you wont be tired no more. I was so run down before the med that I didnt even have energy to think. Hope this helped. with love flowerseed

thank you, thank you, thank you. i am really doing better now. mentally that is. i had some more blood tests today, and i hope he is done after that and will just give me a prescription for the thyroid medication. i just read too much, not good to be in the health care field, and got myself all freaked out. i am going to be fine. me and H already decided that. he is worried about me which is cute. he is still out of town. will be home soon... i will feel better just to have him home. i love you all, and thank you for your prayers and kind words. i can always count on everyone here.
happy_girl

Honey! Happy Girl! What is this hashimoto thyroid thing-y?
I didn't kow you had something like this...I am so sorry! You are at the top of my prayer list tonight, Sweetie. I am so glad Flowerseed was able to comfort you and that you're feeling better.
Are there certain things you must do to control the disease or can medication alone take care of it?
Get plenty of sleep, eat well and drink lot's of water, too.
Love
Catnip =^^=

hi catnip, hashimoto's is an autoimmune thyroid illness where your body starts to attack it's own cells, in this case the thyroid. so eventually it destroys it and that is why you become hypothyroid. i think that most people do okay once they have the right dose of thyroid hormone. i just was reading too much and found a whole bunch of people who apparently have more problems than most. i think most people with hypothyroid actually have hashimoto's but the doctors don't say it. my doctor has yet to mention it, though he is ordering the antibody tests for it.
i had freaked out, but am feeling better now that i have had time to research it more. the only thing is that if you have one autoimmune disease, you are more likely to have others later, like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc. but we never know what medical things await us in the future, so i am not worrying about that until it happens.
i am seeing a specialist next week. once he is done with all the tests he will likely order, then they will just put me on a thyroid replacement hormone, much like they do with estrogen when you have a hysterectomy.
thanks for the prayers. glad you are back, you were missed.
~NGU, thanks for the well wishes!!
happy_girl

Happy Girl:
Thanks for the explanation, HG. I understand your anxiety over the complications the diagnosis presents, however, those are worst case scenarios! I certainly empathize with your distress (I'd be a mess, but then I tend to be a bit a of a hypochondriac) and there are valid reasons for concern, but at the same time, you are so young, healthy and take care of yourself, so the odds of this progressing into anything else is probably pretty remote, isn't it? I mean, this disease is controllable, isn't it?
I am relieved you are seeing a specialist and not some horse doctor...keep us posted.
Catnip =^^=
