Hi there,
This morning we got the oc. My H asked me if he felt hot and I said, um, YES! So we took his temp and it was 101.5. He was also coughing up a storm and couldn't breathe. So we called the hotline and got an appointment at 9 to take him in to the doctors. My H calls ow afterwards and says, hey what's going on. Obviously this just DID NOT pop up because I had only had him for 20 minutes before he started in with the coughing and all that. She said, yeah I knew he was getting sick on thursday (she had friday and saturday off) so I called saturday and got an appt for tuesday. He is 9 weeks old. WHY would you wait to take in your little one? Then when he told her about it, she just said, well he must have just gotten it? Did we just contradict ourselves? I was so frustrated because I can't see why you would wait to take in such a young baby since everyone knows they don't have strong immune systems already. They said he had a severe Upper Resp. Infection that seems like he has had for days. We have not had him since wednesday. How do you deal with ow's like that?

That's just dumb! Not only should she have told you that he was sick when you got him, she should have had him seen right away! I don't blame you for being mad. Is this her first child?

Joshmom,
Yes it is her first child but we have been telling her for weeks that he sounds congested and we think he is getting sick. Its pretty sad. He has been here since 6 and he just left and he was maybe awake for 30 mins because he feels horrid. The only time he smiled was when I was giving him a bath because when he came over, he smelled pretty bad. That's a regular occurance too which I'm not pointing out all OW's, just ours. She says she only gives him a bath once a week. Well he spits up a ton so give him one more then that!

OMG! Maybe you should give her a book on the care and feeding of newborns or something. What to expect the First Year was a great one. She's really clueless, huh?

Yah, it sounds like she may be inexperienced. Perhaps she is not assertive either so when she called the dr. she assumed she HAD to wait for the appt. time instead of stating the baby had a fever right NOW.
OC mom was not very assertive either so there were always misunderstandings w/ the doc appt. SHe would make them for our time stating it was the only time available & it was mandatory, we would talk to the doc ourselves & be told it could easily be re-scheduled since it was NOT a necessary appointment.
Either way, it is a good thing that OC was w/ YOU & you 2 were able to take OC to the doc. IT will be good for the doc to get aquainted w/ you guys anyway & for you guys to get aquainted w/ the doc. That way the docs & nurses will be comfortable enough to contact you guys for whatever & to exchange information about oc ect.
Hope he feels better.

I will say that it was quite an experience taking OC to the doc. Why? Well the OC is on OW's insurance till she is kicked out in june. So it was hard trying to get all the paperwork filled out because my H wasn't his insurance carrier but his mother was and she wasn't there because we didn't tell her we were taking him till we were back in the car. So the nurse was like, so you aren't the mother? I was like no and my H was like, you know its a confusing situation. She was VERY nice about it all just saying how beautiful he was. Then my H laid his hand on my belly and said, well, we have another one on the way and I couldn't be any happier! I was so happy yet it was bittersweet. Then when we went into the doctor, she pointed at me and said you aren't the mom, but the wife? I was like yes, and she asked well how far apart will yours be with the OC. I told her 5 months (I only have 2.5 months left). Then I think she realized it and was like, well you are strong aren't you? So it was wierd, sad, hurtful but I felt wonderful because the doc told us that we should have not waited till tuesday! [ March 13, 2005, 06:12 PM: Message edited by: Hurt5-04 ]

I may be wrong here, but wasn't the baby sick the last time you had him too? Or was that you that was sick? I cant remember now! Either way, I am glad you took him in and I think you handled it so well! I am sure they see alot of this in their line of practice! Stay strong!

momto3boys,
I was sick last time. Working at a preschool, I bring home all the nice things! Anyways, ow pulled a nice stunt today. She came in at 5 this morning to my H's work (hers too), she usually has to be there at 6. So my H was like, what's up? Well, please keep in mind that its a PRIVILEDGE given by their Chief to be able to exchange the baby at work. Soooo, she says she has to get something off her chest. So she precedes to tell my H that she is p*ssed that my H let me go to the hospital with him to bring the OC in. My H was like, ARE YOU KIDDING? YOU CAME IN EARLY TO TELL ME THAT????? Um, OW's name, she IS MY WIFE and she isn't going to disappear. Plus she went on to tell him that she felt it was ridicilous to have brought the baby in on a sunday and now she looks bad. Um....we have a SIGNED paper from the doctor that says the MOM should HAVE brought him in sooner then tuesday! Well, OW broke down in tears and didn't make muster on time so my H got written up for unprofessional conduct....HELLO??? WHY? What did he do? OMGOODNESS....all he did was stick up for me and tell her the truth. But did she get in trouble? No, she was the one that started crying and my H had nothing to do with it! GRRRR

That's really awful!! ((((Hurt))))
I'm so sorry they have to work together, and the heavy hand falls on the guy... so typical. So glad I'm not a guy.
Good for you, the good stepmom!! Take care of you too. J
