I just saw in justawife's post that you are good friends with folks near the coal seam fire and that she's a nurse at Glenwood Hospital. My sister is a nurse at the Glenwood Hospital and lives in New Castle. These fires have been unbelievable. I live in Colorado also and am just thinking it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

Justthewife -- My reference to getting worse isn't a comment specific to the Hayman Fire. I work with ranchers all across the state and they are all in dire straits right now with lack of hay, needing to sell cattle, no water at all. The state is very, very dry as you know and it's so early in the summer for it to be this way. I am deeply concerned about what is going to happen to many in the ranching community. Sometimes I feel like it is a natural disaster armageddon coming to Colorado's rural economy between chronic wasting disease with the elk, the fires, and the drought.<p>Still hoping your family is ok.

I agree that we are just being hit really hard here. All the fires, drought, economy will go to pot, all the people and aminals being displaced. It's just so sad.<p>Do you remember the Big Thompson fire? It was a LONG time ago. What the fire didn't destroy, the flood did. I am really concerned about all the fires, but I also concerned about when we do get rain. I just hope everyone has all the insurance ot cover this all. Heck we even have earthquake coverage! Now that the government has finally acknowledged that climate change does seem to be caused by global warming- but oddly enough they have no plans to do anything about it- folks in Colorado might want to get involved and protect their interests- tell the government they need to act now.

The last word last night was that the wind pushed the fire back southwest. Isn't your family near Deckers (where the fire moved away from last night?)

They are in Teller County, kind of near Florissant - close ride to Lake George, so from what I think it can't be good. They are in the evacuated area in the upper NW corner of Teller Co if that splains it better. I'm thinking it means bad news.<p>E
