Hi Tatchina,

I'm in the same situation and would love to make some money while I'm home with the kids. I've tried to find something as well, but haven't had any luck. Hope someone out there has some ideas.

Actually I think this subject is off limits, I seem to remember someone getting asked by a moderator not to discuss this kind of thing.

But, I'm not a moderator, so I really don't know. Just letting you know what came to mind when I read your thread here. You might want to check the rules and regs, or better yet, I can for you since I'm the party pooper who stuck my big fat nose in. Sorry.

The reason I did was because a friend just ended up filing bankruptcy because she and her H got all tangled up in a home business. She said it was wonderful, I cringed. It ended horribly, and the business is one you would know INSTANTLY. It starts with an H.

Looking up the rules, and will let you know.

E

Just checked the rules I could find, and here is what I thought might apply...

"Please note that advertisements, ...... and solicitations are inappropriate on this BB."

I don't know if that really applies to this thread, so carry on.... I guess as long as someone doesn't come on advertising for their home business then it is fine.

I just don't want to see anyone getting in trouble you know? Hope you understand.

And, I don't want anyone to end up like my friend Jen who is now loosing her home....

Tatchina, all:

I don't know of any legit home businesses, but is it possible that you have any hobbies or talents that you could put out there?

I'm a technical writer by trade, and sometimes when the pay doesn't stretch, I freelance. It's hard I know to build up those contacts, but when I land a proposal or something by networking, it pays off pretty good. I've also sewn, sold craft items, and from time to time, sell off old books on Amazon!

Just some suggestions.

I know of a woman, a neighbor, who began to sell on eBay after her divorce, she created a thriving business by going to companies and friends and selling their unwanted "stuff" for them on eBay for a percentage.

Ways to make money from home that I use (or have used):

1. Go to yard sales. You will find a LOT of incredible stuff, like beanie babies. Last weekened I spent $20 on beanie babies and I have sold one so far....for $150. You can also sometimes find antiques that people don't know the value of, and furniture that you can refinish and resell or keep.

2. Have a craft sale in your backyard. Are you good at crochet, cross-stitch, jewelry making, woodworking or anything like that? Collect a few large tupperware tubs of your projects then advertise a craft sale (in lieu of a yard sale) and sell your wares from your front yard.

3. Same as above, except develop your own web site or sell on ebay.

4. Translating is a good way to make money if you're bilingual in a language that's in demand.

5. Pet sitting.. visit people's homes, feed the pets, walk the dog, clean the litter boxes, etc.

6. House sitting...same as above, except you bring in mail, turn/water plants, make sure pipes don't explode, etc. Can be combined with above.

7. "Personal Assistant" - get paid to do what no one else wants to do. Plenty of people out there would pay you to go grocery shopping for them or to stand in line to buy concert tickets or whatever little errand that needs to be done.

T,

email me - I have more than one ligetimate home business and know of several more if you are interested.

I love working from home - get to be with the kids, can work in what ever I want. It does take self discipline, no one will look over your shoulder and tell you what to do or when to do it.

God Bless,

Tort...
Funny that you should mention Personal Assistant. I'm in the process of starting that same business myself...getting all the paperwork ready, advertisements etc...

From as far as I can tell, there's nothing like that in our area. I'm hoping for success. Are you famililar with this business? Have you seen success in your area? Any suggestions?

I do not want to break any rules so I will be very careful here. I have lost money in many " home business opportunities" when I was approached with this I was at the least sceptical and uninterested. That changed. Only if you are serious and willing to put some work into it. drop me an email and I can send you a coulple website links. email; residualincom2002@yahoo.com

Can I give you guys a tip?

A legit business will tell you their name.

If you are given a speech and pamphlets, all sorts of stuff, then told to listen to more, still not given a name, it is kind of funny don't you think?

Pay attention.

Tatchina:

Here's a suggestion that I learned about from another lady in my neighborhood when I saw her in the grocery last night.

She's in a similar situation as you, small children and little money. Do you have your own car and insurance? She does have her own car (a minivan). Even with a car seat in there for her smaller tot, she has enough room to cart around another 3 or 4 kids. She's contacted a lot of other moms/dads in the area and set up transportation arrangements to day camps, kindergarten, that kind of thing. She charges I think per trip based on mileage and time, and the more kids she can move around at one time, the more she makes... she can set her own hours, too.

Even considering price of gas, which is figured into this lady's mileage rate based on the IRS's current rate of 36 or 37 cents a mile, it seems this lady is doing ok. She's tried it now for a month or so and has about a dozen families or so that she helps out. Another thing she might try is to contact some of the elderly in the area who don't have their own cars to take them to doctor, church, etc.

Good luck! I myself wouldn't have the patience to cart small kids... do too much of that right now for my teenagers right now since we're down to one car.

I just thought of this post when I ran into this lady at the grocery.

Have you considered home child care? I used to provide child care on a full-time basis (7:30 am-5:30 pm)....but I know of several families who called me who needed evening child care. I provided child care from the time my girls were very young until a year ago (we moved). It is a wonderful way to make money and be home with your own kids.
