Mr Holding onto Hope,
If you want your wife to get over it, you are going to have to come clean, fully, honestly and without omission. Even if you know it will hurt her, even if you know it will cause a 'scene', even if you are now embarrassed by it, and see it as nothing NOW, even if you want to just forget about it....she cannot do that, so you must tell.
I was where your wife was. My soon to be ex husband would not admit anything, so I lay in bed at night turning things over, speculating, making up scenarios, and I can tell you this - it KILLED me. I could not function on a daily basis, and I could not 'get over it' because I didn't know EXACTLY what it was I had to get over!
When I finally got the truth, we were already separated, and had been for about four months. I had been grieving big time before then, and still running things through my head on a moment by moment basis. Adding things up, working things out and all that stuff, which wore me down continually. It was CRUEL that he did not tell me, because I never had the chance, while we were together to fix it. I did not know what to fix.
Once I found out that I in fact was NOT crazy for thinking my husband had been having an affair, I was able to pick up the pieces and get on with my life. I KNEW the situation, and yes it hurt, but I realised along the way that I was FAR more hurt, and in confusion and in pain, when I didn't know. If I had known when we were together, we might not be getting a divorce now. I would have known what I was dealing with, and a lot of the arguments we had would have been avoided, because most of them were along the lines of me asking for the truth.
Do you want to save your marriage, Mr H? The ONLY way you are going to do that, fully and with the best chance of success, is to tell your wife the truth. She loves you very much, or she would not be here trying to work out a way to save your marriage - and she WILL STAND IT. Tell her, no matter HOW you think she is going to take this. You OWE her honesty. That much should be hers.
Love and light, and the strength to be an honest man,
Jacky
