Dear 2long:

2 funny. You will do well in the interview. Having options is always best or better yet having 2 many options is not a problem.

Good luck

2long,

I have always been fascinated by "Timing" in life. Maybe because it is something we have absolutely no control over.

If nothing else, the timing of this job interview will offer a new perspective on your life. Look how much it has already caused to you think and ponder.

To have reached the stage you have in the interview process is quite an accomplishment from the way you have described it. Good for the "admiration" EN! The deposit is free; it's not costing you anything.

A side benefit is that your W is making additional EN deposits 2 you as a result of the interview. I hope you enjoy today 2 the fullest!!!

All:

Well, I actually got back 2 my hotel room about an hour ago, but I had 2 read SC's latest, and there were 4 new pages!!!

Anyway, interview (really a presentation of my research) went well. I got a 2r of their new facility (which included showing me the one office with the nicest view - and encouragement that, if they offer me the job, 2 take it quickly, because one of the other 2 hires may snatch it up before I can!). 2morrow morning, I'm going 2 take a gander at available housing, just 2 get an idea of what's available.

Called the W and told her about it when I got back from dinner. Nice convo, but she was tired from a hard day at work. She's getting great help from her coworker that doesn't know about A in getting this report 2gether, which is very good. I kept my responses OFF the subject of Rat Meat and focused on supporting remarkes 2 her.

Would I take the job if offered? I honestly don't know. I think in large part, I would if she were unable 2 get 2 NC, but in reality I could stay where I am, keep the house or let her live in it with the kids, and enjoy life as much there as here. On the other hand, it IS beautiful up here, the air is clean, the sunsets are beautiful, and I could probably get a modest place with a few acres in the woods for about what I'd pay for a smaller place on a dinky lot in LA.

They have 3 more 2 inteview this week. They're supposed 2 make their selections early next month. Their desired start dates would be January or June next year. So, I've got some time 2 think about it and work with my W on our M! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

2long, you are 2much! (& 2good 2be 4gotten!) How did it go--your homecoming, that is... (?)

Do you think your wife was being extra nice because she wants you to get the job or not? Do you think she is afraid if you got the job you would suddenly get tough and just up and leave? Or are you positive she would move with you if you decided to accept the job? hmmmm... just 2curious!

Orchid:

I've known most of the people here since I got in2 this field about 20 years ago, and 2 of them worked where I do now, up until about 4 years ago. After my presentation yesterday, I spent the afternoon talking 2 those of them that were in town (a couple couldn't be there, because they were on travel 2 where *I* work!). Mainly about living up here, working at <facility>, tradeoffs between where I am and here.

It would be a nice place 2 work, no question. Most of the work would be exactly what I do now, since I'd be taking my research grants with me, but the office would be nicer, quieter, and a heckuva lot closer 2 the parking!. The "safety net" for the remainder is somewhat less certain than where I am, because it's a smaller place. And the salary is a bit less (though I haven't been made any offer yet), though the cost of living is less, 2.

Anyway, going 2 have 2 get myself up, hie myself on down 2 the (in)continental breakfast downstairs, pull out the map, and check out some ranches for sale <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> .

Sorry for not replying 2 you directly last night.

"I have always been fascinated by "Timing" in life. Maybe because it is something we have absolutely no control over."

Me 2. And, though I'm not religious these days, it still seems hard 2 just chalk these things up 2 coinkidinks.

"If nothing else, the timing of this job interview will offer a new perspective on your life. Look how much it has already caused to you think and ponder."

Yep. It's a bit confusing, 2!

"To have reached the stage you have in the interview process is quite an accomplishment from the way you have described it. Good for the "admiration" EN! The deposit is free; it's not costing you anything."

That's true, 2! An ego boost I haven't felt in a while.

"A side benefit is that your W is making additional EN deposits 2 you as a result of the interview."

I think this is true, 2. I don't know exactly WHAT she's thinking though. Or what she would really want 2 do if I were 2 take a job here.

"How did it go--your homecoming, that is... (?)"

Ain't home yet. I drive back south early this afternoon, then fly home this evening.

"Do you think your wife was being extra nice because she wants you to get the job or not?"

Well, she certainly has wished me well. She says she wants me 2 do what I want, which doesn't always make me feel WANTED, which is nice 2 feel. But she also is doing things that clearly indicate that she doesn't want us 2 break up, or sell our house, like wanting 2 buy another house near us for a rental. When she talks about "what if" I take the job, the plan is that she and my son wouldn't move until he's done with HS. That's reasonable, since he didn't "move well" 6 years ago, and doesn't want 2 move now. But that's 3 more years, and I don't think being apart most of the time will do our R any good. I would be traveling 2 LA semi-frequently for the next few years at least, though.

"Do you think she is afraid if you got the job you would suddenly get tough and just up and leave?"

I've wondered this. I think it's possible, though she hasn't said it at all (maybe that's not surprising). I think that's VERY MUCH on MY mind through all this. I keep going back 2 thinking "well, if there's no NC agreement, and secret 2nd life continues, I WILL blow the scene and move here." But I guess I always felt that a drastic move like this really is just a way of running away from problems. That really put a damper on the day yesterday, though it was still a good day.

"Or are you positive she would move with you if you decided to accept the job? hmmmm... just 2curious!"

She talks about moving with me, but not for 3 years, like I said above.
