Just wondering... anyone out there In Recovery that has attended a Weekend Workshop? My FWH and I are considering it, but the skeptic (him) things that if we've read all the materials, taken the ENQ and LBQ, the workshop may be redundant. He's not much for "self help" or "expert advice", although we are in MC and he is in IC. My opinion, we've still got such a long road ahead of us that going to it would be like "checking the map" to make sure we are still headed in the right direction. It has been 9 months since D-day, only 1 month with MB - he says he loves me, but isn't "in love with me" but wants to find that feeling with me, not OW.

I could really use some real world feedback from someone who has gone to one. Please...

Hope

My H and I attended one of the MB weekends earlier this year. At that time, we were about 3 months post D-day. We had read HNHN, Marriage Insurance, Surviving the Affair, and several other books.

Our impression was that, yes, the seminar was very much a rehash of the books. Basically the only difference was that Dr. Harley himself was talking. Basically, I would agree with your H that is was very redundant.

However, going to that weekend seminar helped us a lot. But it wasn't necessarily the seminar itself. It was the getting away from family, friends, and "real" life. It was time to focus only on ourselves and our relationship.

But for those of you that may be reading this that haven't read all of Harley's books, I do believe it was a good seminar and would help you a lot. It is just that the seminar is a lot of rehash of what is in the books.

We had a ball and are both glad we went. Just for the time spent alone together, I highly recommend you attend.

Regretting

My W and I did not attend because my W backed out of it at the last minute. That being said, Steve Harley with whom we were Cing, felt that although my W was not quite ready for "recovery" the exercise of doing all the work together, in a group setting, with Dr. Harley and other couples there has proven to be a blessing for many couples trying to recover.
In my case, my W has been reluctant to "embrace" the Harley principles wholeheartedly, and it was Steve's opinion that attending the seminar would help her "see" them better and begin to embrace them. In a setting like that, it's harder to ignore the lesson, or not do the exercise; the group forces you to listen and go along.
Before you think that he's just trying to sell his dad's seminars, he gave us the seminar for free. That's how strongly he felt we should attend.
Just my perspective, of course. But if you ask me, and you can do it, do it! No price is high if it helps save your marriage.
