This is going to be a ramble, so please bear with me. As you all know, WS checked himself into a detox/rehab facility. He has repeatedly assured me that he has had no contact with OW. I called her today to let her know what was going on with WS because I figured she was talking to him while he was threatening suicide last Monday and wanted to let her know WS was okay - I agonized long and hard over this before doing it and decided that I would want someone to do that for me if I were in those shoes. I COULD SCREAM. I have been going up to visit him every single night - leaving work early to pick up son in time to get there for visiting hours. Taking him clothes, etc. Running errands for another patient who has no family here in town. I find out from OW that he is calling her 3-4 times a day and barely even has time to call me in the morning before he goes to breakfast. He is telling her that he is going to be with her when he gets out, etc. etc. etc. She also told me that he is now on suicide watch again - nice to have heard it from her. I am just sitting here sobbing. I can't believe he is doing this to me. He called me just after I hung up with her and I called him on it and told him that if he is going to get the help he needs he has to be 100% honest about everything. He said he is and why would I think differently. I told him about my conversation with OW and he insisted that he hadn't talked to her. When I told him that I knew he was back on suicide watch, he knew I wasn't joking. He is now angry at me and has told me not to come visit him anymore. That's what I get for being a good wife - S**T ON.

I am so sorry.

I think you should call his counselor and tell them what has transpired. He is on suicide watch and they need all the info they can get. I assume it's time for Plan B now. So tell them that you will not be seeing him anymore.

Let OW take the brunt of taking care of him right now. Let her see what it's like. If there is any chance that their relationship will fall through the stress of this will certainly be the cause.

take care

Zorweb, thank you for your kindness ~ I really need it right now. OW can only be there for him via telephone because she is in England. We are in Texas. Unfortunately, he has a carton of cigs and is able to do laundry there...so I guess he won't need me at least for couple days. I have a call into the therapist for their Unit and am hoping that he calls me back. I DO believe they need to know what is going on and why he is relapsing instead of recovering.....

I spoke with his therapist and he is telling them two different things too - this time about his suicidal ideations. He told the therapist he did not have a plan, but told the nurses that he does. Also, in group, he is telling them all about his alcoholic mother and family of origin. Meanwhile, he is telling the therapist the source of all his problems is the stress from his job. I told the therapist that both are issues for him, but the biggest issue is that he is living a double life and lying to both me and OW about it. Therapist thanked me for calling and was going to take WH into his office after we hung up. He also asked me to go up there for a family counseling session tomorrow at 10. I said I would be there, but now need to figure out what to say. Any thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated?

BB, My heart goes out to you. You have already been through so much as I can read from your posts and I know you was so glad that he went into rehab/detox and now to have this slam has got to be heart and gut wrenching for you. I did not have the problem of substance abuse with my WH but I have a son that had severe addiction problems for several years. I want to tell you that your H's actions are also a part of his disease of addiction. He is not physically fit, emotionally fit or spiritually fit and very messed up on the whirlwind of withdrawal from the alcohol and trying to hold onto his addiction to this OW. He must find a way to let her go as well.
His A's are a form of addiction as well. Anything that he thinks can alter his mood and change the way he feels and I'll bet you that his "baggage" of feelings has nothing to do with you, but more from his background and childhood. If he is in a good rehab, they will work on those issues in time. He sounds as if he needs long term inpatient care in MHO. If he is not there more than 28 days, he will definately need intense out patient therapy and many, many AA meetings.(90 meetings in 90 days)
You definately do need to talk with his counselor, therapist or someone at the rehab. Most of the rehabs that my son was in and there were 4 over a period of 4 years, do not allow phone calls at least for several days except rarely to the W or immediate family. They need to stop his calls! I truly hope that he is 100% serious about his sobriety as that is what it takes. He will have the toughest time the first 2 weeks, wanting to leave, change his mind, use alcohol or drugs, etc and will be very active in his "stinking thinking". (An AA term.)
This OW needs to have enough backbone to back off and tell him to make no more calls to her. I wish I could talk to her! She is only compounding his problems not to mention what she is doing to you. Oh, and by the way. You cannot believe everything an OW says. He might have called her but he might not have told her all of the things she claims he did. That was the case with the OW in my H's life, when she called me. Most OW's are such self centered, egotistial people that they truly love to get as many "digs" in to the FW as possible and hurt you as much as possible in order to get you to give up and let go so they have a better chance at having them. His anger probably has a lot to do with his guilt. I know you have seen someone get caught at something and respond with anger when confronted rather than be humbled and say I am sorry or even admit they are caught. He is trying to punish you instead of himself by telling you he does not want to see you. Maybe it is a good idea to go along with it and let him stew a while. Oh, cigarettes are shared a lot in rehab facilities so don't count on his lasting as long as usual. The OW will ahve a heck of a time meeting the immediate needs that are going to be so important to him right now.
I am so sorry that you have had all of this come into your life. I have gone through it with my H in a PA/EA for several months with a coworker and I know the devastation you are going through.I hope that I have said something that will be of help or encouragement to you. Take care of yourself. You've got YOU even if you do not have your H. I will say a prayer for you and for your H's recovery from ALL of his addictions.

Sorry BB, You got your post in before I added mine so I had not got to read that you had talked to the rehab folks. Suggestions on what to tell them...honesty. It will be your best way. I will try to send more ideas later. You are doing the right thing and a great job at it, BB.
