Ha!
Got your attention, right?!?!?!
Ok, you know all that stuff about meeting each other's ENs? Well I bit the bullet and did that yesterday.
Bare with me, this will make you either laugh or at least smile (I hope). Now for me it was initially terrifying but if you like humorous suspense read on.........
H always liked to ride motorcycles. Not me. H has not had a motorcycle since we have been married. He kept one at his mom's in pieces in her garage but got rid of it a few years ago. Seems like this was a bigger EN for him than I realized. My personal fear of motorcycles is great. A co-worker's friend literally lost her head on one many years ago and the story still haunts me. Not to mention the fact that I am not familar with them anyway.
So the story goes, whenever the motorcycle subject was brought up, I squelched it..... SMASH!
Well during the A, OW picked up on the WS' love for motorbikes, she tried to buy one and even after he came home used this as a lure to keep him connected to her. She knew how to use this EN.
So now that the WS is an H and working on my ENs, gues it's only fair that I meet this one. Took all my guts and yep, yesterday he rented an HD - roadking - fully loaded and we went out with another couple.......
My reaction? SCARED TO DEATH..... my butt hurt!!!! That was the ride to their house (about 15 miles via freeway). Then road another 195 miles for the rest of the day..... visited a restaurant , shopped at an HD store, went to an off the road gathering place of HD riders (ooooh most were older than us!!! LOL and fairly friendly group). Then went to visit some friends and had homemade civeche'..... of course a couple of beers helped (the driver had soda - LOL!!! ) All in ALL???? I survived.
I met a need and survived. The moral to this saga? Never doubt a Harley!!!! LOL

Go Orchid! I finally gave in to my fear after my H wanted a HD Forever....when we second honeymooned (as he likes to call it) for our 15th Wedding anniversary we broke down and bought a 2002 Impact Blue Dyna Lowrider. Now that has an even small seat then the road king and we road 80 miles today.....my butt really hurts.
We rode skyline drive a few months ago. it was awesome---scenery and NOT the freeway. no one in a hurry, i really enjoyed it.
I too was scared to death of getting hurt, the financial thing etc etc. My FWH did not think I would ride when he got it but I have learned something since D-day. I am crazy but not insane. Like I would let him ride around without me on the back! haha
Seriously though, although I am scared at times it is awesome to do something different. To try not let the fear take over. AFter the last year of working on recovery and losing a dear friend on the plane that hit the Pentagon I figure I really need to live each day as it comes.
I really think if it is your time is is your time so I am trying not to let my fear control me. I really do have a blast, and as the Bikerchick thing is totally NOT my character it is a lot of fun to be more outgoing. If you break down & get one in the future you'll have to let me know. I am in southern maryland and we are always looking for people to ride with! haha
You are right about the HD people though. All that we have met have been awesome. Some older, some younger, but all very friendly. It is cool meeting so many different people from different walks of life.
Major Kudos to you. I know first hand how big a step it was to even climb on the back of that thing. I hope you enjoyed the ride. My kids are funny when we go riding now....they want to know if we are going to see our "harley friends" and that is not the Dr Harley kind hahaha

good for you orchid. last time I rode a motorbike, not cycle, I drove it through my friends mom's flower patch and straight into their garage wall. brakes and gas on motorcycles are sooo the same!!! glad you got over your fear, but be careful, just the same. we wouldn't want to lose you.
Love sharon

Orchid, From reading all of your posts here, I thought for sure you had no fears!!! Good for you in conquering that. Have you thought about the next time? Sometimes it's harder to get BACK on! Have fun! Oh yeah, you should buy some leather, even if you don't ride the HD again. It could come in handy somewhere else! LOL

Orchid:
Years ago, at a conference, I showed up 2 an evening gathering for barley sodas in a new leather jacket. I had long hair at the time, and already had the beard. Someone said "Now all you need is a Harley!" 2 which a colleague of mine came 2 my defense and said "He drives an old VW bus! Leave him alone, for crying out loud!" I laughed out loud and got another amber nectar.

Just a month or so ago...my husband said: "Would you learn to ride a motorcycle with me?"
I'm so glad someone else is in the same boat with me!

Way to go Orchid!!! I have not every had a desire to ride a Hog, but watch as many do here, they look like they are having a ball.
Just want to add an invite out there, as I am less then 30 minutes from Sturgis and will be glad to board any MBer's that want to come for the Big Ride!!!

Hi GzLouise,E, UH, HBH143, Sharon, JR, NIkko, RH, HH, Karen, SH, 2Long & BR,
Wow, didn't think I would get this many replies...... yea, wanted to share this funny incident with you all...... if it made you smile through all our pain....then my mission is accomplished. I mean really, if I had to get a few gray hairs, at least there needed to be some fun in it right?!?!?!? LOL!!!
2Long, now you would fit right into the Harley look......
RH, let me think about what H needs to do for me. I have to work on my wants..... to much of a giver. Now you know what I look like so you can imagine what those short legs look like on a bike..... are you laughing yet?!?!?!
We did take a pix but that was after riding over 150 miles. I can tell you that my face looks worn.... like it didn't already and I tried to crack a smile after my face had been windblown - LOL!!! We kept our helmets on so we looked like the cousin of Fred Flintsone's friend, Gazoo.
HbH143 & BR, ok you two are next. Keep us posted ok?!?!? If I can do it....... anyone can. Now is that a dare or what?!??!
GeezLouise...... ok something went between my legs and possibly bruised H's hips..... what rumors that would start!!! You are most certainly invited the 'next' time we go...... just let me know where you are and I'll send an invite..... if you are too far away, we can do a cyber ride and share it here. OK?!?!?
E, so you think this is a 'sweet ride'? Hm..... I guess I will get no sympathy from U! LOL
UH, glad to see you smiling... or cracking up!!!
Sharon, U & I need lessons. Except I am too short to drive a Harley! LOL!!
JR & Nikko..... u called me a biker momma or a queen?!?!? I was afraid I would get labled because of this..... oh no!?!?!?
HH, see don't jump to conclusions based on one's post. I can type but riding a bike, well we all have to have something to work on!!!! Heck I don't do roller blading either but I can sure type a response!!! LOL I like you idea about a leather jacket.
SH, Diving with sharks..... definitely one of my next adventures. Let's see, they have a shark exhibit at Marine world where the sharks swim over head. If I put on a swimsuit stand in the middle of the walkway (looking like a fool) does that count?!?!?! Just kidding. I think you have done some fun stuff..... sure wish I could join you.
Thanks, L.

Good for your Orchid.. how brave, my H to loves motorcycles, he had one for alot of years in our marriage, i never once got on, was way way way to scared. If he got another one, I dont think i could be brave enough to get on even if it meant meeting one of his EN's. If he ever does i will definetly remember your story...you are the queen. A/C0810

Seahorse, I wish I could go.....friendly or not I would love to dive underneath the deep blue and swim with the mano (I think that's Hawaiian for shark - no???!)...... The thought will carry me for a while. Sure wish all us MBers were closer!!! LOL!!
How are you doing?
A/C, Well if I can ride, I am sure you can. There is no greater chicken on wheels than me. I am not adventerous to say the least but I am learning to be. All that meeting EN stuff.... boy didn't know what that meant!!! LOL!
Listen, I know you are going through a rough spot right now but when possible try to find some humor in parts of your life. Why I even learned to laugh at the stupid antics of the OW and WS.... it certainly warranted it.
take care and thanks for posting.

Just caught this! How funny! My H is always eyeing Harley's. Says I "need" to surprise him with one for his 40th b-day. I hated it when he did motocross, a street bike scares the begeezes out of me. I've seen more scrambled brains in the ER than I care to mention. I need my H in one piece and functional too. You're a better woman than me dear! I might say ok to a rent now and again but can't see myself POJAing to buying one. Give me some of your courage..PLEASE! Boy the deposits I could make if I was as brave as you!
