I have been looking at these and I think I'd like to get one for the house and one for H car. The one for the house looks pretty straight forwrd - but the one for the car - there are so many options, so many prices, etc....any suggestions. I saw some on e-bay for only 9.99 but I don't know if they are good or not and then I saw some at radio shack for up to $129. UGH....any suggestions?

Buy the more expensive ones they simply work better. Also make sure that it will turn on with voice activation, turn on when the speach stops, and then turn on again. Apparently there are some that totally shut off when the speaking stops... they are of little use for what you want.
Also try some of the other electronics stores like Best Buy and office max.
If you put one in the car, think of using stick on velcro on the underside of a seat so that it will not slide around. [ October 22, 2002, 08:55 AM: Message edited by: zorweb ]

I got one from radio shack that I used with other equipment to record the telephone lines. I recall that with the telephone stuff it was around $90. The voice activated recorder does not work very well by itself in that you have to pretty much speak into the speakers -- so I would concur -- try it out -- cheaper ones would likely be ineffective -- I saw another post where they recommend a key ring attached to wire under the seat, to keep it from sliding. [ October 22, 2002, 09:29 AM: Message edited by: Hurrian Hoosier ]

Here is my experiences ... buy the very sensitive one.
Since my WW is messy, I put the recorder on one of her stuff bag lying around the floor of the car. It worked well but two month later she was furious find it but I have all the recording I need ... including the voice they make when they made up in the car
Few month later I stuff it on the passanger side door's compartment covering it w/ washing towel. That work well too. I got busted again but I have more info on their relation including discussion of verbal abuse from OM.
Again I put it under the seat a month later, she is very carefull now but my purpose is to see her R with my 2D. It doesn't work very good but I got a lot of info. (I never ask my 2D for their R w/ my WW, they either bring it up or I just never ask). Finally she put an alarm in her car and I have no interest no more. I have all the info I need.
What worked ?. One side cell phone conversation, WW used to park and talk w/ OM, when driving on local road (non highway). Also you might have to snoop many time before you get a meaningfull one. VOR by definition will stop when conversation stop but the is a few second delay. This is the one that you need since WH commute or activity might happen the end of the day after work.
Wanna more expensive option ?. You could go to spykit website, buy wireless microphone, you could put your recorder in the trunk somewhere. Those microphone is very small but some microphone need 9v baterry. You need handy mechanic to help you out.
My advice is try and see which location works and again ... if you find anything do not confront your H yet, vent here and regroup !!!.
How is your speedometer's log ? After a few week you might see some pattern then you need to get someone or yourself to trail him, let us know ... I have some exp. to share w/ you.

RedHat....I feel so awful about this. I can't believe 9 years of marriage has got me to this point. Life is not a fairy tale!
The log is going fine - he's not going anywhere now. He's been home on time (I'm keeping that log too that you suggested) but time will tell.
Did you ever record in your house?
I would also like to trail him because I think that will give me the MOST information but he knows my car and I do not dare tell anyone much less ask about borrowing their car or asking them to tail him. That's too personal information to give someone and I learned a long time ago that your secrets should be kept with yourself and God.

Angelia, This snooping can take on a life of it's own -- I have watched too movie detective shows, so I kind of enjoyed this at first. Then when you find something it can be a little scary - upsetting -- and in the mean time it can have a negative effect on the relationship -- There must be some signs that give you reason to suspect. I want to encourage to give some thought as to how you might react if you find something. To be careful not to rage for example - perhaps not say anything initially. Take some time to assembele the facts & seek some advice here perhaps. This snooping if you will is not always adviced - can feed an obsession. But does he have a cell phone? And if so, do you have access to the bill - record of the calls - that can be very increminating if he is having an A! Then of course you have to research on reverse look up phone directory.
Again, good luck!

Listen, when WS is not thruthfull w/ you, you have any right to snoop !!!. This is what I said to my WW ... "If you were truthfull in the first place I don't need to spend money to catch you" ... cause and effect work well w/ the fog. I have been M for 17 years minus 5.5 years of betrayal !.
Yes, I did but there is nothing. Since we live in one of the unit in our apartment building, there are people always in one of the 6 units.
About tailing ... I did it myself too. I got a rental car, a common color and a common car (taurus or camry are my favorite), rent for a week (cheaper) and park it a few block from my house. IMVHO, you should not tailing him until you get the pattern establish or you record something. Post later when you are ready to tail H, I have a few tips.

What an interesting thread. I had no idea so many spy devices were available!
I was the WS, sad to admit it. Now I'm divorced , because of my asinine choice. Anyway, I just wanted to share something exOM used to tell me. He would say things to me like "OH, my wife never spies on me, never reads my mail, never does that sort of thing. She has great respect that way. I don't want you to ever spy on me or look at my stuff, that shows no trust. " Well, I would tell him that I disagreed, and that people in relationships should have nothing to hide. He finally said, "OKay, it's different , with you--but it still shows 'no trust'" What a load of baloney! Found out later that ExOM was a 'serial' kind of A guy, so of course his wife just CHOSE to look the other way. I knew I couldn't trust him myself from quite early on, so the limited 'spying' I did yielded its own findings.
I guess it must seem silly to some of you for a WS to talk about another WS, but I only bring it up as he was a man who had multiple A's, and this was the baloney he told his wife. (He's still married, though separated--as far as I know-NC with him)
Just wanted to add that, it's not anything I can share anywhere else really. Thanks for listening!

Since we are on the subject of snooping. I bought a GPS at walmart for a snowmobile trip. To track where we had been and if needed to get back. Found out this is a wonderful tool for placing in a car to track where someone has been. Its small and you can get pretty good results while its in the glovebox, under the seat or in the trunk. Learn how to use it first, some are a little hard to figure out until you get the hang of it. They require aa batteries and the life span for it being on is 6-8 hours. I spent close to $250.00. But great investment for tracking a WS. Found out by using it WH was still driving by OW house while on his was to the gym. Nailed him to the wall with that kind of proof. It shows every turn and down every street he drove. Good luck. Oh and have used a voice recorder in the house. Attached velcro to the recorder and to the back of the lazy boy, inside the chair, on the wood frame, the lazy boy was near the phone and had the mic velcro to the rear flap, just barely sticking out. It picked up pretty good.
