You know, redhat, I don't think there is any one rule about what women prefer. My W has told me she's always liked the intellectual type, over the macho type, who is in touch with his feminine side. What puzzles me though, is that the OM seems to be the opposite of that. He works out, very muscular, his job is very masculine, etc. The only thing that he has in common with me is that he seems to be in touch with his feminine side.
It will be interesting to see the results.

ya know what I think?
There are as many types of women as there are guys. Different women find different types of men attractive.
Frankly I think the quoted statement is hogwash.
That being said, I'm married to quite a manly man. I've always fallen for tall, dark and handsome.
But you know what? Masculinity may have been the initial attraction, but it was learning to connect with me emotionally that kept me - and I can promise you, I am head over heels in love with the man who knows how to love me - NOT the "masculine" guy.
In fact - now that I think about it...it was the unhealthier parts of me that were attracted to the "manly" parts of my husband.
Character counts. Honesty and openess counts. KINDNESS counts. Willingness to explore emotions and to share them with others counts.

Redhat, Of course masculine guys are sexy, but that is not the most important thing to most women. Understanding, communication, affection, those are the qualities that I treasure in a man. My H is a Marine, I could care less how many push ups he can do but I love it when he bakes Christmas cookies. Don't let the media tell you what a real man is, it's what's in your heart that is powerful.

Hi Redhat,
I can only answer for me, as I know that each of us are different. I did not vote on the poll but if there had been a choice of masculine and who listens thats what i would have checked.
My views on the type of man that I would be attracted to has changed over the last few years. My WH was like the commercial - The Marlboro Man -rough, rugged, sexy. But as I found out, he wasn't a man of character on the inside.
The most attractive man, is one who knows who he is and is true to himself.
God Bless,
D.

Masculin (tall dark handsome) and intellectual man , well spoken; as opposed to bad grammar, effeminate facial features, puny and small, manipulative - like the Mongoloid kind. *NOT* machoman. [ October 26, 2002, 11:54 PM: Message edited by: relate ]

RH If you follow the posts of the individual you've quoted you'll see some pretty glaring inconsistencies and credibility issues. The others are right. Different W like different things. Just as men like different types, so do woman. There are NO 100% applicalble rules when it comes to personal preference.
I like someone who is smart, funny and compassionate. When we start to stereotype people as macho, feminine or effeminate then we do those individuals a great disservice. We ignore their excellent qualities because they aren't manly enough etc., etc.. This is an adolescent attitude that most of us grow out of by the time we finish college.
Be yourself, that's what you know best and that's who women want to see...the real you.

Redhat, I totally agree with the other posts...there is more than what's on the outside (although that sometimes helps, if that is your EN).
Plus, look at the adjectives which were used to describe the "ideal man"
quote:
Masculin (sic) (tall dark handsome) and intellectual man , well spoken; as opposed to bad grammar, effeminate facial features, puny and small, manipulative - like the Mongoloid kind. *NOT* machoman.

Some guys can be "tall, dark, handsome" and yet have bad grammar (my personal turn-off). Others can be "intellectual" yet can't earn a living. God made us all different to meet the different ENs and personalities of others (in both the capacity of marriage and through our interactions with others - work/family, etc.)
I hope that original quoted post was not directed at anyone in particular. I think it's way off!

utterlyconfused: Yes, I know I just want to put a Saturday night poll since I came across "masculin" issue being brought up. Hey wait a minute ... you are eligible to vote, ladies only !. Just kidding. Thanx.
BrambleRose: I use your sig. line many times, I owe it to you. As usual you are always right on the money. "Masculin" will atrract female initially but for sustainable R you need something else.
Ladysing58: Yes, I know that very well. I am not handsome but I was the one were bringing the pretty girls home . You bet ! my single ads after my Dv will include ... good cook, handyman, excelent father, enjoy doing house work together:cleaning, laundry, groceries shopping, etc, good deep tissue massage, could live w/o cable or TV,enjoy cuddling on sofa and candle light dinner ... plus will do anything to be your soulmate .
WillGetThruThis: You can't have both ... that is the hard part isn't it ?. You can't find a romantic rich handsome guy with a good heart/character ...
relate: I actually agree with you on machoman. I don't mean machoman from south of the border type, I mean "The Marlboro Man" type. Sorry I couldn't edit the poll after I had posted to take out reference to you. This program should allow us to edit it after it had been posted as long as no body vote yet.
mgm: I actually see relate's point. OM is a machoman. I am not masculin enough according to relate and in order to attract my WW, I have to change to be more masculin. The problem is not I have to but I should. In Plan A we should not do anything that we are not comfortable with in the long run for a very good reason, avoiding resentments from BS during recovery. The last I heard from OMxW that my WW now starts changing OM to watch dr. phil and to do what machoman from south of the border would not do (groceries shopping, doing laundry, etc ) ... I hope she keeps trying until after my Dv is done. I need to time to pack up my bag and plan C'ng.
Jamie MacInnis: yeap, I just responding to generalization of BH has to be masculine if they want to bring WW back, regardless of plan A-Z'ng.
avondale25: I agree w/ you and I try to give room by giving a hollywood type of machoman, the MarlboroMan. Even with that generalization it still would not add up.

Thanks blondblossom, I am not doubting myself, I never let anyone tell me myself worth. I am also trying to achieve balance on both side to be a well rounded "man". I just need help from ladies to give their oppinions and remove myself from it. -rh- [ October 27, 2002, 06:23 AM: Message edited by: redhat ]

Redhat, I look at it this way, yes some women do love men that are masculine, but what i look at is a man's insides, like how caring is he , is he honest can he return love and respect, as well as i would do ect. Also i adgree with ladysing58 please just listen to your heart.
