The incumbent Senator in the state I'm from was defeated this election. He ran last time on a strong moral/family values platform. Then while in office he divorced his wife and married an office staffer! Not saying he had an A, but the opposition implied it. That was the only negative thing that was brought out about him. Just goes to show that A's don't pay. (I did vote for him because of other reasons, but I felt a little vindicated on behalf of his exwife when he lost). How many of you have withheld a vote from someone based on A activity (truth or implied)? I have. I did not vote for a Sheriff's candidate one time because of his philandering reputation. (He didn't win either <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> ).

In the Maryland Governor's race, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (daughter of RFK) and sitting Lt. Governor lost due in large amount to the unpopularity of the current Gov, Paris Glendening - according to many of the talking heads. Gov. Glendening's poor popularity was attributed in large part due to his promotion up the ranks of an assistant young enough to be his daughter, his affair with the assistant, his divorce of his wife, and quick marriage to the assistant - who has already bore his child.
Now, will we remember his affair and ugly divorce when Rudy Guilianni runs for president?

The opposing parties always have ways of bringing those things back to the forefront.
I'm not trying to bash politicians, but I am trying to point out ways that As can hurt the WS or the OP who often seem to escape unscathed from As. It goes to show that you never know when skeletons (past wrongs) will arise to bite you in the "u no where!!"

I would never vote for a politician who had an affair. If they will betray the one they supposedly love, they will certainly betray you. I don't understand why people hand power over to corrupt politicians and then decry how "corrupt" politicians are. I mean, good grief, WHO elects these people?? Who is to blame if we have corrupt politicians?

True.
Here in Kentucky, our current Governor, Paul Patton, was just recently exposed as having an A. The thing is, his OW was "alledgedly" getting return political favors. She blew the whistle on him when, after her ending the A, he stopped the favors and instead put the heat on her business.

Anyway, what is so bad, is that when the story first leaked, Gov. Patton strongly denied it to the public and the press. He then had to take backwater, and publicly, and tearfully, told the truth.
I've often wondered lately what the exW thinks to herself everytime she sees the news about his A. I would have to think that it keeps her "guilty" conscience alive and well. But then again.....
