OK--we talked about NC last night--he knows nothing is going to happen between us while she is in the picture at all. Now he says that he is afraid that if we try to work things out, everything might end up the same way. He also mentioned that in a way he wishes we could just start over, but hes still afraid. What can I do or say to help give him hope for the future? He is afraid he will never be happy and I think he's really depressed. How can I help him other than just being there for him and encouraging him to talk and listening? I've told him that if he wants the marriage we really have to work at it and he agreed--I just don't know how to help him feel that there really is hope.

oh btw--i have mentioned the idea of counseling before but he doesn't feelhe can do it. He is very uncomfortable talking about how he feels to a stranger--he didn't talk to anybody at all about his feelings until I had known him a few years.
