Is there a computer network specialist anywhere here?!?!

I need some serious advice, WS, who put my computer and all of his on our home network is moving out this weekend and only leaving me the DSL box so I can get online but is taking router (security issue, course he has probably hacked my system anyways, but I need to secure my system, and I know I will have to get another router, but need to talk tech with someone, He never educated me on the networking of out computers, (how convenient!!!!) So I need help PLEASE???? He knows I can not afford to buy another router, or anything at this point, so If there is a specialist I really need to talk to you, with everything else he is doing in this "fog" I do not put anything past him in sabatoging my system or being able to have access to it from where ever he is moving to. Thanks for the help.

A few suggestions:

1. Scan the adds for routers. I have seen ridiculously good deals on these things, esp. this time of yesr. I recommend Linksys.

2. After WS has left, download ZoneAlarm( the free version), which is a firewall. In simple terms, it locks all the back doors to your machine and keep programs you don't want from accessing the internet. It is very easy to use.

3. Last but not least, power down or unplug the network cable from the DSL box when not using it.

Thanks Luki, I have zonealarm, as soon as I can afford router I will. Will look for the one you suggest, might have to ask you questions as my computer forte' is Java and HTML, and that's at novice level as I was going to school online because of health, and WS took it away from me, but I get back to school soon. Will unhook from DSL when not on. Have Norton Systems, I am trying to educate myself about all this in crash courses. Thanks for replying as I need the tech advice.
