My parents were in an automobile accident last night near the airport in Maui. Sadly, my sweet, beautiful mother didn't survive. She was one of the kindest, most loving people to ever walk this planet. Earth's loss is heaven's gain, as she is now basking in the the glow of her Lord's presence.

My dad got pretty banged up, too, but I know the pain in his lacerations and broken bones is nothing compared to the emptiness and hurt he feels in his heart right now. They were married nearly 57 years, and the strength of their commitment to each other has literally sustained me during my bleakest days this past year.

I'm leaving for the airport soon to join my father and siblings there. I'll check back upon my return in a few days. In the meantime, thank you in advance for your prayers. I appreciate them, and you, so much.

I too am so sorry for your loss! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

I am an Emergency Room nurse and have sat with families and held their hands so many times in situations like this and still never seem to have the right words to say.

Please know I am there with you in spirit, holding you hand!

I always wonder what to say at times like this. It's not as if I could change anything or make it easier.

I do care though, and am praying that your family will be comfortated.

You and your family will be in my thoughts. I just lost my grandfather three weeks ago and that was ruff enough, I couldn't even imagine losing my mother. I will say a prayer for you and your loved ones.

Just returned from Maui last night with my father and my 3 siblings. Won't go into a lot of details now, but my dad is doing remakably well and we are all relieved to be back. It's so great to be home with my wife again - she's been really supportive through all of this.

As tragic as it was to lose my dear mother, it could have been much worse. We learned through the course of investigating the accident that mere inches/milliseconds proved to be the margin preventing up to eight more deaths (my father and another family of 7). It's miraculous that my father survived at all, much less emerged with relatively minor injuries.

I firmly believe that God intervened to minimize the tragic results. That eight other lives were spared by such a thin thread of time and space goes way beyond the coincidental in my book.

My dad received warm and wonderful care while in Maui, and he has an extensive network of friends and family here who will support him as he adjusts to life without his companion of the last 60+ years. Their union for all that time was right out of a fairy tale - they were truly blessed and were totally in love with each other. The success of their marriage has a lot to do with the reason I am determined to not only save mine, but make it better than ever.

Many thanks to all of you here for your concern and prayers. You are truly special people and it is so comforting to know that we can support and care for each other during times like this. God bless you all.
