We are looking at potentially the dream house. We just started counseling and things are better. We seem to have a better understanding. Would it be a mistake to jump into a big financial responsibility?

Any kind of input would be appreciated. What would you do? I do feel unsettled.

I’m sure others will have different opinions…and that’s quite ok, but here’s mine:

I would feel a little unsettled too, but since you stated that you both started counseling let me ask you this: Have you both made a new commitment to your marriage? Have you made a commitment to do whatever it takes to stay in it and love each other? If you have then I would say go for it. But if not, then I would feel like it wouldn’t be a good move at this time. That’s my opinion.

Thank-you LWH. Yes, we are working real hard at our commitment. He has been incredible. We have had such a time of it. My trust is still in the repair shop, but day by day we have been going through the ups and downs. I want to do whatever it takes. He has has some bad habits that in the past when confronted with my feelings he would say sorry and then just do it again. Predictably so. Counseling has been the necessary tool. We talk, make our complaints and also give each other compliments! We have nearly come fully to terms with the problems. I still have questions as to his unaccounted for time in the past. But the past is getting further away and my feelings seem less hurt. He does still disc some of my legitimate feelings of the past. In counseling, I said it. And I think he actually heard it. My concern is valid. I love him and know that my best man is the one I married and that he has grown and so have I.

You are welcome. It sounds like things are moving forward in a good direction for you both. I wish you luck and continued progress toward a better marriage.
