This mught be a dumb question.

What I get from what you've stated is that this HATEFUL reaction is a sign that the PLAN-A is REACHING the WS?

So I'm supposed to understand that when he looks me dead in the eyes with all the hate he can muster and he says:
"I don't love you, I hate you, I NEVER want to be in a relationship with you again, you are ruining my R with her"

That this is what I WANT to happen. THat effectively whatever I was doing was WORKING?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well I wouldn't say that anyone WANTS that to happen!!!

Does it mean it's working? I dunno, what is he saying that in reaction to? Exposing? Confronting? If so, then it's certainly to be expected. And it most likely means that you're making the A uncomfortable, especially if he's saying that you are "ruining his R with her." Yeah, that would be "working." Not pleasant, not fun, but definitely the goal of Plan A, which is to end the A.

What else are you doing, what have you tried, and for how long?

As I said earlier, you have to think of it as an addiction. Almost no one wakes up one day and says "Gee, I'm addicted and it's hurting the people around me. And they've been so good to me, I think I'll quit." Heck no!! They fight and kick and scream, call names and say all manner of hateful things on their way to treatment. It's only when they are substance free and actively recovering that they begin to see that the "tough love" measures... confronting, exposing, separating, were done out of love and were in their best interests overall.

I actually woke up one day and knew it was just that.

Basically I tried to tell him how I felt, show him that I changed and wanted to work on R. Tried to let my walls down and be who I really am. Became very honest and extremely vulnerable, regardless of my fear and of retaliation from him.

He became ANGRY, VERY ANGRY, Was completely withdrawn and didn't even want to speak to me prior to this.

As far as confrontation, I never did. Instead, I simply allowed him to tell me over time. When I asked about a "R" he gave me the typical "Then I have to give her up" line and the "I don't love you anymore I just care about you bit".

I have tried to maintain the peaceful attitude and up until he moved her into our home, it seemed to be reaching him. Once she moved in, I backed way off, and he has noticed.

He sends me daily emails re: DS and lately they are friendlier. I LB'd and told him I hated him (much to my regret) and since then he has expressed his pain over hearing those words (DS was in the room <img border="0" alt="[Teary]" title="" src="graemlins/teary.gif" /> ) and today even expressed some regret abotu incidents in our past.

I'm close to PLAN-B because I hurt when I sit around him and he seems so nice and caring. It leads me to believe that there's a chance and I get angry because it never happens.

I've even considered moving into the house RIGHT ALONG with them to drive her out. He was FURIOUS when I tried that. I left because I felt that I was hurting him by being there.

Not sure what to do anymore.

As far as timeline:

ME: EA 1yr PA 1 1/2 yrs.
Plan-A'ing since August 20th 2002.
Him: R started 1 month prior to my ending A without my knowledge.
Moved in together at 7 month mark.

My stuff is still in the house and wasn't packed up until February...

Hey there.... ALS won't care if you hijack. Do you know I have a thread at JFO that is an open invitation for anyone to drop in with their questions and thoughts and stuff.

I tend to get overwhelmed so if it seems like I drop off the face of the earth come over there and make yourself comfy. Generallly I just pop in over here to check on ALS (gotta keep him on his toes) and a few other things that I read but don't respond to.

So, although I've seen your name around, I really know nothing.

Fill me in a little, briefly... and if you felt so inclined to come on over to JFO I'd be sure to not be a dimwit and forget to check back.

Blonde and overwhelmed.... not a real workable combination!

Ok, now I read the sig line. Tell me what's happening now...

It makes the "I hate you" comment from him more understandable.

And ya know what? None of these cases are black and white, and they all are. Everyone is unique and yet there is a strong thread of similarity that runs through them. We all like to think our own situation is very different, but it's pretty rare I see one that is.

Thanks Cerri-

I'm also trying VERY hard to help ALS. He's a good guy and seems to really listen to the WS point if view.

I did want to ask how you got into coaching. I'm thinking it might be something I want to look into.

Gosh I'm not sure where to start -

He and I are now in litigation over the house and custodial rights of our 5 year old son.

I have been respectful of his R as much as I can be, mainly by NOT contacting his GF at all. I had words with her once to basically inform her that she was moving into a home that was equally owned against my wishes.

At the same time I've been sending him notes that really tell him how I feel. I've even gone so far as to send him cookies to a hotel he was staying at while he was on business! My logic was that I wasn't VERY supportive because of my own frustrations at the time, and I wanted him to know that I understood how tired he was and how demanding his travels were.

His reactions have varied. The cookie thing caused him to completely withdraw for a while. He never acknowledged them and was extremely hostile towards me after that for a week or so.

We spend time together while DS has karate class. There we will sit and he buys me a danish and tea. We chat about stuff, but sometimes it turns to the "you did this, you did that" from him.

Generally, I no longer try to start conversations. I wait for him because I don't want to put pressure on him. He usually asks how things are at work, how I am, etc. and so on.

He never talks about his "R" with AM at all.

He tells me how hurt his parents still are over everything. At the same time he says that he doesn't want me to contact them to apologize or anything.

He calls me and talks about trivial stuff re DS that is completely unecessary ie "are you getting him tonight" when he KNOWS that I am. Lately, I cut the conversations off.

He sends me at least one email a day - lately two or three - all nice and airy. He tells me he wants to be "friends" on one day, then tells me he "hates" me the next. Then when things don't go his way, I hear "I thought we could be friends when all of this was done, but it doesn't look like that will be possible...."

He couldn't even tell me her REAL name until October. He had me and his OWN son believing that it was something else. He also couldn't tell me face to face that she was moving in, he told me by email right after I sent an extremely honest and loving email.

He keeps throwing my indiscretions in my face in this manner:

Why should I tell you my travel plans when YOU took off on me etc and so on.....

So he's angry....I was wrong....I can't fix that....

Lately, I have cut contact to a minimum and he seems to be goading me into an argument with him. He is being ever so nice, and acting like he is completely loving and innocent. It burns me because I know and HE knows that he has that angry side that he loves to unleash.

I feel like my anger and pain is not important and that he uses my actions as a way to justify his choices now.

What should I be doing?

Kily -- I am getting some of this contradictory stuff too (although with almost zero emotion, that I can see). I'd be interested in the replies you receive. You might consider changing the subject line to invite more responses?

A.M. Martin -

I hope that this title is apt.

All of this is SO confusing. It's hard to know WHAT to do.
