You kids ain't old:
"Bye Bye Miss American Pie
Stuck the Hudson in the mud, son
Cause the mud wasn't dry"

Do any of you even know what a Hudson was? I rode in a couple when I was a kid!

Pep

It went something like:

For you sweet love....
Rock the Boat
Hues Corporation

So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
Said I'd like to know where, you got the notion

To rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
Rock the boat, don't tip the boat over
Rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
Rock the boat-t-t-t-t

Ever since our voyage of love began
Your touch has thrilled me like the rush of the wind
And your arms have held me safe from a rolling sea
There's always been a quiet place to harbor you and me

Our love is like a ship on the ocean
We've been sailing with a cargo full of, love and devotion

So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
Said I'd like to know where, you got the notion

To rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
Rock the boat, don't tip the boat over
Rock the boat, don't rock the boat baby
Rock the boat-t-t-t-t

Up to now we sailed through every storm
And I've always had your tender lips to keep me warm
Oh I need to have the strength that flows from you
Don't let me drift away my dear, when love can see me through

Our love is like a ship ..........

Boy.... Kind of brought back memories of a when, just a few days before 9/11 I was going to be "leaving on a jet plane, dont know if I'll be back again"
....Was under a lot of stress, didnt know where I was headed, just wanted out. The *only* thing that stopped me was, I would of had a guilty conscience of taking his hard earned money and using it for an airplane ticket. (When you *dont* plan a trip, you pay triple)

Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

You say you're gonna leave
Gonna take that big white bird
Gonna fly right out of here
Without a single word
Don't you know you'll break my heart
When I watch you close that door
Cause I know I won't see you anymore

Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

Haven't I been good to you
What about that brand new ring
Doesn't that mean love to you
Doesn't that mean anything
If I threw away my pride
And I got down on my knees
Would I have to beg you, "pretty please"

Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

There's so much I wanna do
I've got love enough for two
But I'll never use it girl if I don't have you

Don't pull your love out on me baby
If you do then I think that maybe
I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years
Don't pull your love out on me honey
Take my heart, my soul, my money
But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

Gina was that the Everly Bros. or Righteous Bros.? H. won't listen and changes station immediately, BUT I love em. The voice sounds like BJ Thomas actually.
When I was a kid I listened to my siblings music so I have heard all types and like all of it. I never knew what Timothy was about, and I will change the station on that next time, YUCK!

Remember the song that went, now that he's gone all that's left is a band of gold all that's left of the dreams I owned is a band of gold Does anyone know the words to it I really liked that one. I was about 6 or 7 when it came out I think.

Darnd if I know, (smile) I was not good at the words to songs. I never heard the words clearly so I made up my own. This is kind of neat to see the words written out here...I listened to my siblings music too. (Had two sisters older then I) Karen Carpenter, Fleet Wood Mac, and who knows what else! Always eaten sunflower seeds back then too. (Oh how funny) I copied this song from the beginning of this thread. (Thats how confused I am with your post and which song is what) Didnt the Rightous Brothers sing: "You've lost that loven feeling?" (My mind is actually making connections????)I still dont know what the Timothy song is about, I kind of skipped over it. Sounded like it might be too intense to me for today. Maybe I will read it another day.

Esp. when we were younger, making up the words was fun and in a bunch of the songs, your own words made the meaning much better!
Remember the song "Up On a Roof" when this old world starts a getting me down I go up where the air is fresh and sweet.....and ends up with there is room enough for two ,,up on a roof! James Taylor re sang it but think it was a 50's song originally.

HOW OLD ARE YOU???? (Just Kidding!) Yes, I "may" remember that, vaguely, but, only if I heard it, not by the title of the song.

Gina and Wflower - the first song was posted near the beginning of this thread actually, and it was done by Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds.
Up on the Roof - ah - a classic - The Nylons did a wonderful rendition of that oldie in the 80's.

Well, as much as there is to read, anyway. My favorite interpretation is that the father, son & holy ghost reference is to Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and Big Bopper who died in that fateful plane crash. The trip to the coast supposedly refers to the shift to California made by the music business at about that time. Here's another link, in case you're interested in some alternative interpretations. And by the way, Satan is Mick Jagger.

Hmmm. Guess I will stay away from fleetwood mack.I should explain something here. Right now I only have a few CD's. For about the last year I had just two classical CDs. (No problem. I was happy.) Then when I started going through this "I am going to be happy phase" I started jumping on the mini tramp and needed upbeat music. Then I started listening to "oldies" stations.

It is neat reading words to old songs here though. Its been a while (over a decade) since I have listened to the oldies. Its bringing back lots of memories of when I was growing up.
