I posted this in the Plan A/ Plan B section also-but I see that this section is had more action...
WOW- When I first found out about my H’s A- I thought that no one else out there felt my pain or understood our situation. It is the most difficult of life’s situations. I went to my local bookstore- and found Dr. Harley’s book, read the back cover and flipped through the first few pages and thought, “what the heck” and bought it… Well- I couldn’t put it down and read the first few chapters before I left the bookstore, and the whole book TWICE in less than a week. If I didn’t know better- I would have sworn Dr. Harley wrote the book about my H and I and just changed our names…. (Except the genders were reversed- my H had the affair) It helped me so much, just to have the feelings and emotions identified- and to know that what I was thinking and feeling were “ok”. I asked my H to read the book- and through parts of it when I would find something that would identify with our situation and feelings at that moment. He found the book very helpful, and it let him identify the “why’s” and helped us each be accountable for exactly where our marriage had gone. It has been such an emotional roller coaster- we have been through the initial shock of discovery, the promising of wanting to making our marriage work, and now the discovery of not being able to make it through withdraw. He feels that he shouldn’t have to “deny” his feelings, because he believes they are “true” feelings for the OW. He wants to be able to act on these feelings- and I know he needs to do this…. I know that no amount of advice, counseling, or heart-to-heart talks will make him see the reality of the situation, until he goes through it on his own. (They truly believe at this point that the A happened for a reason, and they were meant to be together and are “soulmates” and that “no one” understands the “connection”) He does know the severity of his decision to act on his feelings, and at this point he is willing to face the consequences of acting on those feelings, whatever the consequences may be. He knows my feelings, and how I would be willing to make our marriage work through forgivness and recovery. I know usually the A doesn’t last more than 6 months after it is found out… But I guess what I am having a hard time finding past experiences on is the “separation” time- and being with the OW. How many A’s have actually worked? How many of these situations actually get to the point where the H makes it work with the OW? We have agreed on one thing to help us get through this situation, and it is honesty. He is honest with me about how he feels, but he is at the point where he is tired of second guessing himself and his feelings, he wants to make a decision and just stick by it. I have told him I respect his decision- and I have not let ANY LB rear their nasty head. (Sometimes I don’t know where I get the strength to be so understanding…) I have been, and am working on the issues that we have in our marriage- the EN that we were not meeting- and why we couldn’t meet them. The biggest EN was honesty and communication- he thought I should just “know” his EN and he shouldn’t have to tell me them. He had the unspoken EN need theory, and he knows now that it wasn’t the productive way to think. How can you expect someone to forfill those EN if you aren’t honest enough to communicate them to your spouse? He sees how wrong this is now, but he feels like his emotional door is already closed to me. My H has patterns over the course of his life of taking the “easy way” out so to speak. He actually feels like he is “breaking the mold”, by making the decision to act on his feelings- when I can see how he is actually just letting history repeat itself. (But to try and help him see that at this point would only create resentment, so I have to be patient and let a life lesson be learned.) And if it is not learned, then at least I have not created the resentment. I am sure that I will be posting more in the coming days, weeks, etc… But any help anyone has experienced through this particular situation would help GREATLY….

Since you asked....The stats usually quote that less than 5% of A work out to 2-year+ relationships. But that probably includes the ONS and the less "determined" situations. So the A could possibly work out.
Your H does sound (unfortunately) pretty sure of himself. But it's usually a fascade that covers a fair amount of uncertainty.
My only suggestion for now is to make sure you don't hide your hurt too much. Sometimes hiding the pain to extremes is not beneficial for ending the A. If your feeling hurt, be sure to share it when possible, testing that balance between honesty and pushing away.
FWIW, you should like you have a strong grasp on things considering the circumstances. And your level of understanding is atypical for a new poster.
I thought of two things that might help folks understand your situation better. First, where do you see yourself on the Plan A/Plan B spectrum. Second, has your PlanA had an effect on your WH? In other words, does your H seem to know (if not feel) that the marriage is recoverable if both of you worked on it?

Is your WS planning to remain at home while he pursues the R with the OW?

Good start Oth..... welcome to MB
So if he is going to act out his fantasy, what are you suppose to do?
Now go get the book Love must be tough by Dr James Dobson. You don't have to allow yourself to be the doormat unless you want to.
Can you schedule sometime with Steve or Jennifer or get a good MC for support?

Cali's story...
In January 2001 my H started being very strange. Innocent talks would turn into fights. A woman co-worker, who I had also once worked with, was suddenly all over the place. They were lunching together. OWs name kept coming up in conversation. Near the end of the month, there was a barbeque @ her house. I remember my meal sticking in my throat, feeling very uncomfortable, but not being able to figure out why. She hugged me @ the end of the evening and I remember thinking, "How weird, we aren't THAT kind of friends... close, ya know?" And my H gave her a spontaneous invite to our middle son's birthday party the next day. She did come. She, her kids, and she brought a friend... she didn't mingle... set away from the main party, though I did ask her several times to join us.... but I was busy w/ the party and didn't think too much of it.
February. Kind of vague. But I remember being sadly disappointed that the Valentine's basket I made him went untouched. I had spent so much time and thought over it. He seemed to be getting more and more distant and SHE seemed to be EVERYWHERE.
March. He has a new cell. $200 phone bill. He is MAD when I question the 100+ phone calls. I actually call his mom and ask HER if I should be concerned... there were more phone calls to her than I... at very odd times... He, of course, HIT the roof. OW calls me @ work. Tells me she is VERY in love w/ her H (H #4... married 2 years... have a new baby) and that she and my H are JUST FRIENDS (red flag!) and they just talk to each other about their marriages. She hopes things won't be awkward between us and encourages me to NOT boycott her daughter's 1st birthday party that next weekend. Gullible me feels relieved. And I go. On parade for her 'friends' who are in the know.
April. Daughter's birthday party is okay. Kinda weird, but not memorable. We left the next day for Spring Break in San Diego. H is awful. I'm in one room of the vacation condo. He's in another. He is uncommunicative and we fight over why he is doing NOTHING and why he isn't participating in the vacation... oh, and he has to find a couple of reasons to call her... AND be on the internet... later I find out to go their 'home' page and chat w/ each other and send each other lovey-dovey emails.
April 25. We have had several fights. This morning he says we need to separate. I am blown away. This is the man who TRULY believes what God has put together MAN should not separate. He was the poster boy for "work on the marriage until you work it out." I just KNOW. Later that night I go hunting. It wasn't hard. Being a computer teacher, I just followed the email trail. It was clear.
He came home. Admitted it. I fell apart. I didn't go to work the next day. I told everyone that I could think of... including OWs H. She was more than pissed. She kept haranguing him because he 'couldn't control me.'
I immediately went on a quest to figure things out... 'cause that's what I do.
Two things had happened over this time line which are totally unrelated to his affair... or maybe not... I'm beginning to understand that God lets you in on things when you are ready and when you need it. Anyway. I came to the realization that I was treating my family terribly. I came from a home, in my adolescence, which was colored by alcoholism and anger. Lots of rage. And, I was using my anger inappropriately in my family... not physically violent... but I WAS very verbally angry and could throw a mean tantrum. I knew it... but wasn't sure what to do about it.
Secondly, I also realized, through a survey @ work, that I used collaboration and cooperation to get along w/ my co-workers... but at home I used control and aggression.
It wasn't a pretty picture.
Armed w/ self-discovery and looking for stuff on infidelity, I found MB. Read "Surviving an Affair" and about 20 other books. Learned to fix myself and did a pretty decent plan A... with a few DOOZY lovebusting sessions.
The summer was filled with angst as he moved out the end of June, though he still managed to be around everyday. And, we had LOTS of rockin' sex. ALWAYS a good connection w/ us... and unabashedly I used that connection. I asked that he be with us as a family one night a week, take me out one night a week and begin to go to church again. (We lucked out...or were God led ... to a great church).
At the end of the summer, he moved back. (We are teachers and measure the year as a school year... the summer was a long YAWN for me... filled with so much fear... but so much growth). In August, he takes his wedding ring off... which causes a lovebusting session or two.
I continued to read EVERYTHING I could get my hands on and the changes have been obvious... to many. A former co-worker saw me a couple of months ago and asked if I was pregnant... not because I LOOK pregnant... but she said I had 'that' glow.
The fall was so so. He was home, but he didn't want to be. He didn't want to be married. And, though they were now teaching @ different schools, there was still contact between them. PLUS, he was talking to someone else... someone much younger. I tried to blame OW... I tried to excuse his behavior as a mid-life crisis... but that was the wrong tack... finally, I began to detach and TRULY work on ME and NOT us, even began individual counseling without telling him (which really shook him up.) It became my goal for ME to get healthy so that I could go on... marriage or not.
January 2002. Not sure what happened, but H calls me near the end of the month to tell me that he's 'never calling that b*tch' again. I thought I would faint right in Wal-Mart. We have his wedding ring re-done and he puts it back on.
February-April 2002 I negotiate the get the 'young 'un' out of his life. Which I still beleive she did on her own... we came back from spring break and there were some very ICKY phone messages... he tried to say that ANY student could have found our number and called... but I doubted that they would leave POINTED messages in EVERY family member's mailbox... I proved my point by putting a BLOCK on unnamed phone numbers and the messages and hangup calls STOPPED immediately.
May / June 2002. H and I are saved and are baptized in June, together, on Father's Day. (A far cry from the previous Father's Day when we got tattooed together). He finally, a full year later, says he loves me. really, really loves me.
We spend summer 20002 househunting and move into a new home late fall. It has been a hard journey, but GOD in our lives has made ALL the difference. I feel blessed that when it came right down to it, he truly couldn't depart from the way he was raised.
Good luck to you... it is a long, hard journey... but make YOUR growth the priority... make the journey about YOU and what you need to do to become WHOLE and HEALTHY and you can't go wrong.

Cali- Thanks so much for the responses... I am sorry that it took so long to reply- but SO much has happened emotionally since my last post... When I posted that day- my H and I were seperating. And I then realized what I needed to get through this situation- and it is what I needed for such a long time, but was SO afraid to seek it out... I had lost my spiritual walk... And last week I reached out to talk to someone that I had always respected for their spiritual relationship... And when I spoke with them- a felt such a strange unexplainable calmness with the situation... And now I am just trying to get back on the spiritual path that i am comfortable with- and that has been difficult... My H and I both are so afraid of what this means- and have ?'s at every turn- but it is something that we are exploring together and trying to help each other through it... So- that is the last week in a nutshell- we also have a child that has been ill throughtout the last year- and just to try and deal with that has been an emotional struggle...
I thank you so much for your warm welcome- and would welcome any advice that you have if this happened to you and your recovery process...

How many of these situations actually get to the point where the H makes it work with the OW?
Not sure there is an exact number. I have heard the 5% tossed around, but have yet to see the source. I believe it would be difficult to coduct a scientific study on the subject.
I will say this. I am a member of an OW board and most MM do not leave the W for OW. However, many are quite successful at carrying out both relationships before and after Dday.
My FMM and I have now lived together for almost 15 months. He is now divorced. D was final approx 6 months after he left. We are still back and forth in Court over the baby - she'll be 2 in August.
You are at the right place. MB has excellent literature and many great members (hi Cali). It sounds as if you have a good grasp of the MB philosophies. Just remember to take care of yourself. Try not to focus on the OW, just your husband. Good luck to you and your family. tew

hey Ouch...
good to see an update from you.
Glad that you reached out spiritually. I had three women @ church who propped me up and prayed w/ me regularly. I know it made a BIG difference. God will not let you down... marriage or not, He will do what's best for you, if you let Him.
Keep posting your questions. This is a good sounding board. bump your post up, if you need more responses ...

Thanks Cali...
This last week has been a "weird" time in my life... No other word really explains it... My peers (people who dont know whats going on under my roof), have asked me what is "different" about me... Like a new hair cut or new color or something?... And it is just odd how opening that part of my being has not only changed my inward thinking, but my outward appearance as well.... Weird... that's all i can say...
Cali- I was wondering if you found any good christian books on the subject to help you through...?...(besides the Bible of course...lol)

HA! You want the LONG list or the SHORT list... you must know that I am a voracious reader and now have the definitive INFIDELITY/MARRIAGE library! Seriously... The Harleys books are great. Dave Carder's "Torn Asunder" Cloud & Townsend's books www.cloudtownsend.comAn oldie but goodie: Chuck Swindoll's "Strike The Original Match" Ed Wheat has several books on marriage. Chuck & Nancy Missler's "The Way of Agape" Cali
