I have not posted in a while. But I have a question regarding "Lie Detector Tests"
My H has said he would gladly take one, to prove he's not lying anymore. But I have no idea how to even go about having one done. I mean, who do you contact? What does cost? How accurate are they?
I don't want to go on Montel ... I'd like to do it privately...
Any suggestions???
Thank you ... Baby Blue

Expect fees in the $250 and up range.
Understand you will be limited in the number of questions that can be asked....three in most cases.
The questions MUST yes and no type question NOT open to interpretation. For example: Have you had sex? But not did you love someone else because "love" is open to interpretation.
The questions have to be cut and dry....you can't ask what they were feeling at a particular time.
As to your husband being willing to take a lie dectector test that can mean a number of things. My wife took one knowing full well she would have to lie. The examiner said the results were inconclusive because my wife was trying to manipulate the results....translated apparently she tried to remain calm on the questions she knew she was lieing about but was upset on simple question like "are you a female" or "is the sky blue".
So your results will be:
A) He is lieing. B) Inconclusive results...either he is too nervous (bad sign) or trying to beat the lie detector (another bad sign). C) He is telling the truth.
Most examiners when they come up with inconclusive results tend to believe the test subject is hiding something related to the questions but perhaps not exactly lieing about the question itself.
Example a subject might be asked "Have you ever taken illegal drugs" They answer NO but they had in the past used prescription drugs that did not belong to them....and not talking about antibiotics or decongestants but more like recreational use of pain killers or mood altering drugs like valium. So while the test subject hasn't smoked pot or done a line of cocaine they do have a guilty concious for chasing pain killers and booze.

How accurate are they? Why do you think they are NOT allowed in court?
What if he is not lying, but he is too nervous and fails? What if he is lying and passes?
Also, if the person taking the test BELIEVES it is true, they can pass the test.

So ... basically, it would just be a waste of money?
How are we supposed to know the truth? I don't believe he was completely honest about his A.. and I strongly suspect he is now either slipping into, or already in another "inappropriate relationship".. (he has trouble calling it an Affair)...
So I don't know what to do. I want to believe him.. but he's lied to me soo much. And at this point I don't even know if this is my gut instinct talking.. or just paranoia.
Sometimes, I feel like I've lost my mind. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

hi Baby Blue, I too want to have my husband take a polygraph exam. He says he is willing to do this for me to show I have all the truth. He took one already and it contained three questions. On two of the questions he was not lying, but on one of them it showed a slight difference. I guess when you lie it shows a marked difference. The operator said it might be unsure of something pertaining to that question. WHAT? Not sure if he a sexual contact with another girl other than what he told me about the ones he did WHAT do I do now?????? I really don't know. Maybe next week I will schedule another one. I'm so mixed up. I wish there was someone on this board who was knowledgeable about these tyhings and could explain the lie dectector tests...

The degree of accuracy depends on the expertise of the examiner. Get in contact with a criminal lawyer to find out who is considered the best in the field. What you may also try to do in order to get a more accurate reading is to pay a more money for more questions. The reason being that the more questions that are asked the higher the degree of accuracy . What can skew the results is medications like tranquilizers that can calm the subject and prevent nervousness or if the subject is a pathological liar

When my FWH took a polygraph the examiner had over 20 years of criminal experience before switching to private practice. He said the only people who could beat a polygraph were people who had intensive military training...very rare.
Tranquilzers wouldn't affect the test.
He said that accuracy if 99% if test given by experienced examiner who asks no more then 3-4 questions, ask black and white questions and only yes or no questions.
We paid 500 dollars and it was worth every penny. My H thought on one of the questions he could fool the test...he didn't. Remember they ask several control questions as well. They also ask the same set of questions (control and real questions) 3 times and compare the results...makes it very accurate.
