I have questions regarding "perfectionism" for any and all who have dealt with it personally and for those whose lives were affected by it.
1) What was the trigger that helped whomever recognize that they were a "perfectionist" and their life needed to change?
2) What with in them helped to conquer the beast?
3) What outside influences helped?

You mispelled perfectionism in the subject line.

I'm sorry...I'm SOOO SORRY, but this is the FUNNIEST post I've read today <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> Perfectionism spelled wrong...HEE HEE!!!

Ok, I'll try to settle down and answer your question. My dad was a big perfectionist. I guess I first noticed those tendencies in myself when I recognized my dad in many of the things I would do.

I try SO HARD not to expect the same of others as I do myself...and as of late I'm trying to treat myself with the same respect I expect myself to treat others with. It's a constant battle...not one I'm sure will ever end.

What helped me to "conquer" the beast? How about a desire to have friends?? No one wants to be friends with someone who expects them to conform to their standards. I still struggle with this...mostly with those I just KNOW are performing below their ability. (Now that's a dad statement if I ever heard one).

I guess I figure I never conquered the beast...just caged it. Perfectionism can be used for good, and not just evil...you just have to learn how to get it back in the cage when it starts to take over.

What outside influences? Everyone and anyone. I try to learn from everything that happens and everyone around me.

Again, thanks for the good chuckle! I hope I helped at all.

Otherwise, I do appreciate your input. I am trying to figure out my H and how "perfectionism" is affecting him and our marriage. He does not recognise this trait with in himself, as of yet.
So, in the meantime.....
