I have been told that my husband has an alcoholic personality, can anyone tell me what that is? The strange thing is he isn't an alcoholic. Can anyone make any sense out of that?

Well, the thing that defines an alcoholic is his relationship to alcohol, not his personality. However, if you went to AA meetings for about 20 years like I have, you would see some strong similarities such as:

1. very self centered
2. defensive
3. easy to anger to the point of rage
4. emotional and erratic
5. narcissistic
6. very little empathy
7. irrational
8. overacheiver - very driven
9. perfectionism

Irrational thinking is most likely a result of anesthesization of the left brain, though, so you might not see that trait in your case.

He is so irrational, I thought he might have a multiple personality disorder.

What causes this in a non-drinker? He doesn't abuse drugs either.
