My wife & I have been married for 4 and a half years and been together for 6 years. We had the closest relationship, physically & mentally that anyone could ever have. My son from a previous marriage has ADHD and poses a problem for her. After we bought a house, she developed a gambling addiction. I said I would stick with her through thick & thin. And I did. When I was forced into a job with bad hours and she felt a lack of freedom because of my son, who is home part time, she gambled even more. Then I started to distance myself from her and gained weight. Then she stopped gambling in favor of an affair and told me I neglected her and it was too late. Since then I have pleaded with her to stop this mess, she is breaking up a family (she has done this to two other guys), but she only cares about running from the situation. I love her so much and I know she needs help but she refuses it. The guy she is with has a questionable background, not good for my stepdaughter. I don't know what to do, when I say I love her, she says I know, and she used to say it back before this guy came into the picture. Then she wanted to bankrupt the gambling debt, but I refused. I am at a loss, what can I do? I am bothering her a lot, trying to get her to stay, but she keeps going out with him and now wants to move into an apartment, but stops short of wanting a divorce.
I am thinking of filing for legal separation, my religous beliefs prohibit divorce, but I am asking anyone here for advice. Please, I am desperate right now.

Coach the first thing you need to do is read everything you can get your hands on about infidelity.

Many of the experts on affairs point out the addictive nature of affairs. This would be consistent with your wife's addictive temperment especially given her gambling addiction.

This is a tough one because recovery can't happen until the addiction issue is addressed.

You might want to contact Dr. Harley owner of this site and seek his professional help. But you and your marriage strongly need some professional help to guide you thru the rocky times ahead.

Hang in there its always darkest before the dawn.
