I came across these stats today. Can these stats be true? What do you all think?

80% of couples who divorce as the result of an affair later regret their decision to divorce!

Fewer than 10% of all relationships started during an extramarital affair result in marriage

and if that affair-born relationship does result in marriage, 3 out of 4 of those couples can also expect their new marriage to end in divorce.

Out of every 100 extramarital relationships - less than 10 of the unfaithful spouses will actually marry his or her lover. If they do marry, 3/4 of their marriages will also end in divorce - which means that at best, less than 3 out of every 100 affair-born relationships will result in a marriage that does not end in divorce! (And remember...this doesn't take into account marital separation, only legal divorce, which brings the success rate down from the already generous but low 3%)

Sounds consistent with what I've read in past and from you hear about in real life.

Would you please post this on the recovery board. IpsieDixit is a WS over there who is struggling with whether to stay with wife or OW.

Thanks.

This was also reported during the CNN special on Infidelity.

I believe that it is true. Their relationship is based on lies and deceit. It turns against them in the end.

That why MB encourages us to wait the A out. The relationship will typically end on itself without our interference.

Time and Patience!!!

Oh I beleive that they are factual for the simple reason that the vast majority of WS and the OP, that leave their respective marriages for each other, don't have what it takes to salvage their marriage when things get tough. Eventually, many of the same issues that were present in their first marriages, and contributed to the environment that made their affairs possible, will surface in their new marriage. There is a very good likelihood that one or both will become involved in an affair, and that they will repeat history by calling it quits on their marriage.

WS's are perfect poster children for George Santayana's famous saying: 'Those that do not remember history, are condemned to repeat it'.
