Well my car blew up today. At least the engine did. It is going to cost about $800.00, plus it will take 2 weeks to fix it.

This is all because I didn't check the oil, water, etc. My WH used to yell at me about it, and even showed me where to put what. However I always figured if the car was running all was okay.

So if your H is not around, please take your car somewhere to get it checked. Or get a friend or neighbor to show you what to check. It is much cheaper to do it now than to wait until some horrible thing happens.

Well . . . could it be about both cars and relationships?

Us girls have relied on our relationships with our H's to keep our autos running.

And now some of those H's are gone. Yet there are some H's here, whose W's are gone.

And they give us good car advice.

That is the purpose of this thread.

For instance, I posted that my "Check oil" light came on the other day, and I was going to go get an oil change the next day.

But the next day, the light wasn't on, so I still haven't gone to get lubed.

And a BH berated me severely about not taking care of my auto, and it not taking care of me, like what happened to Believer.

So, tomorrow I am getting my oil changed.

So, can it be about both autos and relationships?

WAT - Actually it is about cars. But I suppose you could extend it to relationships. The deal is, for a lot of women, if the car still runs, there is no problem.

This sounds like its about a relationship with cars. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

So isn't the manly thing to do is for him to do the car maintenance? Maybe he would like to do your share of the housework, cooking, etc.?

Hey not a bad idea. When WS moved out and had to do his own laundry, get his own meals, clean his own place, etc.....he sure appreciated what I did when he came back.

The WS used to think he didn't have to care about our car. He does more maintenance now.

Guess now I need to wash both his pant legs. LOL!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" /> Just kidding. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

I was commenting on the obvious parallels:

"This is all because I didn't check the oil, water, etc." = filling ENs

"My WH used to yell at me about it..." = partner didn't listen

"However I always figured if the car was running all was okay." = complancency

"It is much cheaper to do it now than to wait until some horrible thing happens." = we're always too late

"and even showed me where to put what." = well, er, you know

WAT - you are too funny. Yes I will own up to not taking care of the car. I sorta did, but not really. I kinda thought that should be his job. However he has been gone since July.

So I will admit that I should have been taking care of this. The car always ran well until today.

And my marriage was always alright until July. Of course when WH got with OW there was not a lot of smoke, and it didn't cost me $800.

Reminds me of an old urban legend. The best way for a woman to get her oil changed is drive down to the local auto supply store, park in the parking lot, open the hood and stand there looking at it. Within minutes, other customers, all male, will notice and practically fight each other for the priviledge of changing her oil.

Never tried it myself but we did need a boost once at a restaurant when we were out for a company lunch. The car I was in was carrying 3 women (including the driver) and one man. The other car offering us the boost had 3 women including one of our students (i.e. a sweet young thing). None of us was sure how to set up the cables and for a while, other people just past by us without offering to help. So we sent the guy back into the restaurant and had the sweet young thing stand by the open hood holding the cables. Instantly no less than half a dozen men appeared out of nowhere to help the damsel in distress!!!

I guess the lesson learned is that a pretty young woman is far more useful than a man at getting a car fixed.

OR.... if your windshield is filthy, stop at the gas station and grab their windshield washer thingahoochie. Stand there with a confused look on your face [do I start at the top or the bottom??? TEEF] and some guy will come along and wash your windshield!

gotta love men!! hurray

Thanx to MB my M is now back on track and better than ever. MB ROCKS!!!

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.

Are you asking if I'm serious that the one guy couldn't connect cables? To be fair, he didn't own a car - lived in the city and took the bus. I own a car and wouldn't trust myself to connect the cables though I'm pretty sure I could change a tire.

They have "idiot proof" cables now. My dad gave me some. So that means that if the person who stops to help me is an idiot, they can still help me! Hey, I'm southern AND blonde...I won't have to touch a car EVER.

Yes

Oh, well if he doesn't own or operate one then he has no need to know how it works.

It is my opinion, that one should be tested in basic emergency repair as a part of obtaining a drivers license. (Changing/plugging a tire, Jump starting/Push starting, Oil fill, Radiator check/fill, etc)

LOL - they actually used to teach that stuff back in the day when I took driver's ed. I don't think they do anymore. Now I can just call the auto club. (or travel around with a sweet young student!)
