My have tried to get through 16 months of staying with my H after he told me of his A. I have since learned she wasn't the only one. There have been several. Only the last one was a "soulmate A". As of last Nov, he has assured me that it is over and he is no longer in C with her. Well that remains to be seen.
I have been trying to give him "space". I know I smother him. I'm trying to let go and work on me. I want to be responsible for my happiness rather than rely on him to fill that for me. .
I've been hesitant to take meds. My counselor suggested them to me over a year ago and I resisted. Now I'm ready to try most anything.
What do you suggest?

Arsenic? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
Seriously, I'd see a doctor and ask their advice. I used Zoloft years ago when I divorced my ex and it helped but it does take a while to build up in your system and if I recall correctly you have to taper it off; you can't just quit cold turkey. It kept the sadness and tears under control so I could get out of bed, get the kids ready for school and daycare, fix dinner, etc. It helped me function.

Wellbutrin because it has the fewest overall side affects.
Some of the others have serious sexual side affects.

Arsenic? Is that for me or him? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
Sorry I couldn't resist. Thanks for the advice.
Stunned Dad, I've had others recommend that as well. I ask about it. One quick question for you. I think I attended the same school as you. I'm from a small town in S GA. Are you attending VSU? Don't answer if it's too personal.

MaryKat,
I'm the Poster Child for Prozac! Love the stuff! I don't have any of those nasty side effects.... thankfully... but H takes Wellbutrin because, as a diabetic, he's already dealing with sexual side affects and we don't need any more! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
Talk with your doctor and let her decide.

Marykat,
I've heard really good things about wellbutrin from an associate who took it. It actually improved his sex drive (of course for some of us on here, we really don't need that right now.)
I actually take Celexa myself. Have taken it off and on for several years. It does take up to 6 weeks to take full effect, and you do have to taper back off (I tried going off cold turkey once and had major anxiety attacks and "electrical shock" sensations in my arms and legs for a while.)
But as for sexual side effects, they all passed over about a month and I had no problems after that. Paxil and Serzone, the other two I tried, totally screwed me up from that perspective and I also had major insomnia on both of them.
Lexapro, fairly new, is also supposed to be really good. I think it's a lot like Celexa.

I take lexapro and it is supposed to be the cleanest (meaning least side effects) out there. Now if you are a man Wellbutrin is the way to go. The SSRI's cause serious sexual side effects in men, but wellbutrin doesn't. Lexapro may cause sexual problems in men also. I have had no sexual side effects with lexapro and was amazed at how quickly it kicked in. The thing you have to be careful with concerning Wellbutrin is that it's not always the best if you are having depression and anxiety. Something to think about. My Hs mood was great on Paxil, but we had no sex life. This was before the A. He now is on Wellbutrin, which eliminated those problems, but he is still testy because he has anxiety. Good luck choosing one! CV

Yeah.....I graduated when it VSC, too in 1983. Who knows maybe we knew each other. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> Good luck with your degree.
Thanks to everyone with your advice. I'll ask about them.
The wellbutrin sounds good as far as no side effects, but the main thing I need it for is anxiety. I will try to get to the docs today. I keep putting it off thinking I can handle it on my own. I don't think it's been working for me.
Thanks all

Hi
I took remeron. No side effects, besides it will help you sleep also.
I quit plain cold, didn't had to reduce dose or anything.
For anxiety I was recomended Tafil, but never took it. I didn't wanted to become a walking pharmacy.
I think you should ask your Dr. Also there is a book called feeling good, that will help you thru this with psycology, but it also has the full list on all antideps to date, and side effects and all.
Take care, and I hope you find your pill <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> . They do help.

Well we were there at the same time. I didn't to college straight out of high school...well I did but one quarter. I was the proverbial rebel child and set out to prove I could be my own man. After about 3 years of "proving" I could be stubborn, immature and full of pride I went back to college. Graduated in 1984 so we were there at the same time.
Okay because now curiousity has the best of me....what major and if you want to post it what small town?

Let me add regardless of which AD is prescribed its going to take a few weeks to start making a difference.
The older drugs like Xanex and Valium are highly habit forming so even though they work in some cases the first dose the risk of getting addicted offsets the benefits.

I'm taking Xanax right now along with the Celexa and have been for a few months. But you are right SDFR, they are habit-forming and you do build up a tolerance.
For example, the effect my .5mg tablets had three months ago is not what they have now. However, they were a lifesaver until my A/D kicked in because they work immediately and still do help to an extent, so I'm not going off them yet. However, I'm also NOT upping the dosage. I don't have an addictive personality and have NO intentions of staying on them long term, once this crap gets under control, but I will have to wean off.

I've taken Wellbutrin for over 2 years, and it has helped tremendously. I have suffered from mild depression for many years and I can't tell you the changes the drug has made. I am hoping to wean myself off later this year after my current medical problems.
I haven't had any side effects with Wellbutrin. I've tried Lexapro, and it just made me sleepy. The doctor prescribed me a Valium so I would be still for an MRI and it was awful. I wasn't anxious, but I didn't give a hoot about anything either. Wellbutrin is hands down the easiest for me.

FWIW my H was prescribed Wellbutrin when trying to quit smoking and he had horrible reactions to it. It made him *really* ill. There is a very small percentage of the population that it just does not work for. So definitely consult with your doctor.
Of course, now that I think of it, my H was consulting with a doctor and got prescribed Wellbutrin anyway. Hmmmm...
Regarding the arsenic - whatever works best, Marykat! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

I take Zoloft...love it! Could not live without it. I would definitely recommend something. Life is too short to be miserable.
