this may not be a good topic for the boards, but since i am 11 days into plan b this is where i come for support.

i have been putting off a dietary change in my son's life since it would have really disrupted the family home. but now that i am in plan b, it is just me alone w/s, so i figure why not start now!?!

his diet changes will be drastic. i have heard of other asd (autistic sprectrum disorder) kids doing well on the cf/gf diet. (that means casien (dairy) and gluten (wheat) free) i don't have a lot of details on this diet (s has been dairy free since 3yo, and it did make a difference) but i am off to research the details today. it just seems like everything at the groc store has some form of milk or wheat product in it.

i think that i may have to give up my diet coke and that is really stressing me right now. i'm sure that the nutrasweet isn't any good for his diet, but without milk products, what do we drink? i'm hoping lots of water and juice will satisfy s, but i have been a steady dc drinker for 20+ years.

this may be harder than giving up h.

wish us luck. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

I have a friend who has a child with down's syndrome, and this diet made a DRASTIC difference in the quality of life for her and her family. I don't know much about it, however, I am a big believer in how diet effects EVERYTHING in our lives. A couple of great books I have read on this concept of holistic health (with an organic, naturalistic diet being an important element) is 8 weeks to Optimal Health, by Dr. Weiler. It is a great book, and should help you understand why this is important for you AND your son.

By the way, I have read this and several other great books like it, and while I am certainly quite honest on the topic, I am not at all consistent in practice. I could stand to lose about 30 lbs, so...enough said! :-)

uofmfan, This is a link to a no-grain diet. I had Rheumatoid arthritis, this diet cured it. I am pain free and medication free now. It also takes away sugar and your diet coke..lol...

This is the basic theory behind the diet.

Hope this helps.

One after thought if you put you S on this diet be careful he eats enough.

I lost 50 lbs in 6 weeks on it. Then I lost another 10 lbs after i wanted to stop losing weight before I figured out just how much I had to eat to maintain my body weight on it.
