I have found an old letter to OW on my other computer, it has been saved in MSworks v4.0, the problem is I can't read it, it is all symbols and sort of hyroglifics(sp), does anybody know what I can do to change the type to something I can read.
Thanks in advance mtheart

Hi MtHeart,
In your Word application, do the following:
1. Select File - Open 2. On your "Open" browser pane: Select the Drop Down selection "File of Type" 3. Scroll down to "Works 4.0 for Windows (*.wps)", and select it. 4. Use your browser to locate the desired folder/file, and select it.
Hope this helps. Jo <small>[ May 02, 2004, 10:58 PM: Message edited by: Resilient ]</small>

mtheart,
Once you follow the directions that Resilient gave you and open the document in MS Word, if the text is still in unreadable characters, try selecting all the text (Edit, Select All)and changing the font to something legible such as Arial or Times New Roman.
good luck

I have found that just opening it in Word it will change it over into letters sometimes.

Also
If it has been a long time since recovery, just get rid of it. Honestly I wouldn't want to put salt in an old wound you know? Do you really want to read it? You might get hurt and mad all over again. I think I would just get rid of it so you don't get sad. JMOP.

Thanks for your replies, I still haven't been able to read it because on that comp I haven't got msword, just msworks.
I tried copying it to a floppy disk so that I could try using word on this comp but for some reason it wouldn't copy to a floppy disk, it just gave me a message that said it was unable to read file???????
Hiny, I can see what you mean but the only reason I want to read it is because I still feel that I haven't been told the complete truth as yet.
Any other ideas I could try?

Can you print it out?
It you can't, then you could copy and paste it to your compose e-mail page and then print it.
Then you could take it to a computer shop and ask them if they know anyone that could deciphor it...
Everything on the Internet is written in a 'code'. I am sure you have tried to send a page from the Internet and often if we send as a page instead of a link, it is this same program type unreadable code.
I would be like you and want to know what it said! Love, Julie

Microsoft has viewers available on their website for free download. If the file is in a Word format, it would allow you to open and read it. Try this Microsoft Office Viewers

Thanks smidgen, I went to the site and downloaded "Text converter for works 4.0, and presto, it converted the letter so that I could read it.
Hiny.... Thankfully, I learnt nothing that I didn't already know, it confirmed things that he had told me but I refused to believe. There was a lot of "Dribble [censored]" in it but I expected that, sloppy stuff is what I mean, you would swear it was written by a 16yr old school kid!
Anyway thank you all for your help, I have deleted it from the comp now.
