ol' 2long - I saw it man - and you didn't! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" /> Got to work early so I could see the sunrise from the 14th floor. Used a black negative for a filter and caught the last hour or so. Best part was when some thin clouds rolled by and I could drop the filter - it showed up better then.

Yep!

We have the Maroon Layer out here 2day. I suppose I could have driven up the hill and gee whizzed it from there, but work was so much more enticing I couldn't see myself doing that.

I've got one more chance in 8 years, then I'll have 2 live 2 be 164 for the next one.

...maybe if I eat right?...

Ya gotta help me with the "Maroon Layer." Don't know what that is. Our crabs turn more rusty red than maroon when you steam 'em.

They call it the "marine layer" officially, but I get claustrophobic when I can't see the stars at night, hence the rename.

keep looking up!

I didn't even try the Venus thing - drizzly drizzly and MORE drizzly here in GA this morning.

HOWEVER...
I did go to Cincinnati for a graduation over the weekend and I got to experience the Cicadas first hand!

That oughta be worth *something*.

turtlehead:

YES! It's worth something!

...as is staying at a Holiday Inn Express or saving a ton of money on your car insurance...

How much money does it take 2 make a ton? Even in pennies, that's gotta be a lot.

Speaking of cicadas, I forgot to mention that as I was looking at Venus in front of the sun, a cicada flew between me and the sun/Venus - a cicada transit? (To be truthful, this probably happened several times as the clumsy oafs are flying everywhere.)

So, 2long, you can figure this out - when was the last time a lving person observed a combination Venusian/17 year Brood X cicada transit?

Sheesh - I read all about the event, but on MSN it said that people in California would not be able to see it.

I am a star and universe nut. This is probably too much ancient history for you all, but I got addicted way back when my dad took us out at night to see the Russian satellite, Sputnik.

I love Carl Sagan's books. I have a telescope, and look at all of the skies every night.

It was cool. They replaced one of the "o's" in Google with a sun and a black dot.
