How do you do the links, for instance to Plan A? I always look it up, copy and paste it, which is very time comsuming. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Thanks

believer, I save the link in my "add to favorites" folder and then everytime I need to post it, I just click, copy and paste.

another thing you could do is start a paper listing all your favorite links and leave it on your desktop. Then you could copy and paste from there.

Believer,

ML actually has an excellent solution. If you had a list of links in Word, or Works, or Notepad, you could use the hot key <Alt>-<Tab> to switch between windows and copy and paste links to your desire.

I have pasted links before and find that the way the MB message board editor handles this is cumbersome. Not really any elegant way around that.

One word of caution – if they change the link, MLs method will break down. Probably safe when posting to Harley’s essays, etc., as those links wouldn’t change, but not really useful for cross-referencing other posts.

To do that (because when you get in the Reply Editor you are kind of stuck) open ANOTHER Internet window, browse to the post you want, highlight the URL in the address line, Ctrl-C for Copy, Alt-Tab back to the reply editor, click the URL button in the Instant UBB code at the bottom of the screen, then Ctrl-V for Paste and voila. Trade in your smile for taped glasses and a pocket protector.

Hope that helps.

Believer and KiwiJ,

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/mad.gif" /> ARRGHH! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/mad.gif" /> I am really angry at you. But first, let’s talk business.

Believer – Try your signature line again. You should get an option that let’s you NAME the URL. You can be a little more creative than

Plan A link
http://www.marriagebuilders.com/graphic/mbi8113_ab.html

You should be able to title the hyperlink to something like Hop To Plan A or Believer’s Express Ticket to Plan A or Believer’s A Ticket Attraction or something creative.

On to my ANGER. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/mad.gif" /> Believer, you posted that all you needed was mismatched clothes to be in the “geek” club. Most geeks do a fine job picking out matching clothes when we buy them. (Actually, most of our clothes are bought for us, we never really think we need them). The mismatching comes from the fact that we are all VERY utilitarian and VERY practical.

Definition of CLOTHING to a normal person: a cloth or synthetic accessory that is used to accentuate natural beauty of a person through style, cut and choice of accessories. Alternatively a source of protection in a harsh environment or inclement weather.

Definition of CLOTHING to a geek: If it covers genitals from most viewing angles and smells reasonably good, put it on and go do something productive.

I’m very sorry, but mismatched clothes are just not enough to join the club. You have to exude the essence of outward appearance being nothing more than a distraction to IMPORTANT stuff – like grease, and circuits, and machinery, and computers, and robots, yeah lots of robots, … pant pant pant.

We can smell a fake geek a mile away. (You usually smell good, LOL).

I would leave you with this: “Young geekhopper, when you can snatch this greasy, 3/8” SAE box wrench from my hand while calculating a Fourier transform and at the same time getting your tie caught in the electric drill, only then will you be a geek.”

The long URL address is ok but how do you rename the links like alot of people do.

In other words if I put a link to this page on another thread how do I rename the link something like "Learn to be a Nerd"

ncwalker - Picky, picky, picky. I have done it. I now have a link. Thanks much. My link is enough for me. I am quite impressed with myself and YOU.

In fact, I will not be posting to people who are not as far advanced in geekdom as I am. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

OK. Here is the lesson on how to do a link the sexy way in a post on the board. I am going to assume you want to put the link in a reply to a post.

1) Open an Internet window to Marriage Builders. Browse around and find something you want to post to. Then open ANOTHER Internet window and browse to where you want to put your link.

2) Click the Post button that lets you post your reply. This opens the "Post Editor" that has the message icons, the typing window, the Instant Graemlins and Instant UBB Codes at the bottom. You know, the thing you type in.

3) Type, type, type, until you get to where you want to put your link.

4) Then in the "Instant UBB Code" section click the URL button. It will insert a link whereever the cursor currently is located in the typing window.

I have inserted this link Hot Photo and Background of JL to some hot photos and information on one of the MB "heroes", none other than JL.

Here is how you do it: When you click that URL button, a "pop-up" window shows up asking you for the exact URL. The EASIEST way to do this is to go to the OTHER window you have open (remember, you can't explore in the window you are typing your post in or you will lose the post, surf in the OTHER window) and COPY the ADDRESS line at the top of that window. It is the thing with the http.... Make sure the WHOLE LINE is highlighted and press Ctrl-C for copy. Then come over to the "pop-up" that showed up when you clicked the URL button in the editor and hit Ctrl-V for paste. The URL is now typed in that box.

5) Click OK (do not hit enter) and ANOTHER pop-up window will show up. This will say something about scripting, etc. Whatever you type in this box is what the link will "say" in your post. In my link example above I typed "Hot Photo and Background of JL". That is not the URL, the URL is "behind" it. You click the sentence and it activates the URL. It is kind of like giving the URL a nickname and what you see in the post is the nickname.

6) Keep on typing and finish your post.

BTW. I usually write my posts in Word. That way I can spell check, etc. then I cut and paste into the MB Reply Editor and stick in all the smileys, etc.

Happy Computing

NCWalker

You cannot make me a geek, you cannot make me a geek, you cannot make me a geek......

I already are one.

I always KNEW that's who JL really was.
