My dr just prescribed effexor for me. I'd never heard of it so did some research and the side effects (especially when weaning off) make me a bit nervous. Anyone out there have any positive or negative comments about it? I'm supposed to start tomorrow morning but I'm really nervous about that. Any help is appreciated.

LosingFocus,

I was put on effexor as a result of my W's A. Never went to a psychiatrist or treated for depression before that happened.

My experience was mixed:
It did help with my Depression. Did not make me "high" or overly happy, but did make the "Lows" not quit so deep and let me come out of them much more quickly.
(I was also on Remeron, for sleeping...as I wasn't getting Any).

However, I did experience the sexual side effects. (Dr. told me a rate of about 30%)
For me, my sex drive went from a 9 on a 10 scale.. down to a 1. (For me big problem).
Also even once I got in the "mood", it did prolong my ejaculation. (Problem there? For whom?)

In addition, once on this drug, Do make sure to taper your doses down as they recommend.
I didn't and paid for it. It was like getting a bad case of the flu.

Because of the side effects my doctor decided to switch me to Wellbutrin.
Got the prescription, never took the drug.
(I was pretty good by that time, so my wife used it to quit smoking). Yea

Hope this info. helps you. Later

Anybody else hate the administrator's Flood Protection, like I do?
Always gives me the "Double Post".
Now a new one for me: A one shot Triple Post...please.
