U2's Walk On

And love
Is not the easy thing
The only baggage
That you can bring
Not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on
Walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it

Walk on
Walk on
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place
None of us has been
A place that has to be believed
To be seen

You could have flown away
A singing bird
In an open cage
Who will only fly
Only fly for freedom

Walk on
Walk on
What you got
You can't deny it
Can't sell it or buy it

Walk on
Walk on
You stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
You can only take so much

Walk on
Walk on

Home
Hard to know what it is
If you never had one

Home
I can't say where it is
But I know I'm going

Home
That's where the hurt is

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
Walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind

All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break

All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind

All that you reason
All that you care

It's only time
And I'll never fill up all I find

All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress up
And all that you see

All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate

Yes, U2 is my favorite band...

So Cruel:

We crossed the line
Who pushed who over
It doesn't matter to you
It matters to me

We're cut adrift
But still floating
I'm only hanging on
To watch you go down
My love

I disappeared in you
You disappeared from me
I gave you everything you ever wanted
It wasn't what you wanted

The men who love you, you hate the most
They pass right through you like a ghost
They look for you but your spirit is in the air
Baby, you're nowhere

Oh...love...you say in love there are no rules
Oh...love...sweetheart...
You're so cruel

Desperation is a tender trap
It gets you every time
You put your lips to her lips
To stop the lie

Her skin is pale like God's only dove
Screams like an angel for your love
Then she makes you watch her from above
And you need her like a drug

Oh...love...you say in love there are no rules
Oh...love...sweetheart...
You're so cruel

She wears my love like a see-through dress
Her lips say one thing
Her movements something else
Oh love...like a screaming flower
Love...dying every hour...love

You don't know if it's fear or desire
Danger the drug that takes you higher
Head in heaven, fingers in the mire

Her heart is racing, you can't keep up
The night is bleeding like a cut
Between the horses of love and lust
We are trampled underfoot

Oh...love...you say in love there are no rules
Oh...love...sweetheart...
You're so cruel

Oh...love...to stay with you I'd be a fool
Sweetheart...you're so cruel

But none of these get you fired up! This one helps me be strong.

I Don't Want To Change The World
Ozzy Osbourne

Standing at the crossroads, world spinning round and round
Know which way I'm going, you can't bring me down
Don't you try and teach me no original sin
I don't need your pity for the shape I'm in

[CHORUS:]
I don't wanna change the world
I don't want the world to change me
I don't wanna change the world
I don't want the world to change me

Tell me I'm a sinner I got news for you
I spoke to God this morning and he don't like you
You telling all the people the original sin
He says he knows you better than you'll ever know him

[CHORUS]

You know it ain't easy
You know it ain't fair
So don't try to please me
Because I really don't care

Don't tell me stories 'cause yesterday's glories
Have gone away, so far away
I've heard it said there's a light up ahead
Lord I hope and pray I'm here to stay

Tell me I'm a sinner I got news for you
I spoke to God this morning and he don't like you
Don't you try and teach me no original sin
I don't need your pity for the shape I'm in

[CHORUS x2]

===========

Or if you’re feeling down and really want to wail, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Blues Traveler - Mountains Win
I pick up my smile put it in my pocket
Hold it for a while try not to have to drop it
Men are not to cry so how am I to stop it
Keep it all inside don't show how much she rocked ya
Ooh can you feel the same
Ooh you gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Ooh I feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
The mountains win again

Dreams we dreamed at night were never meant to come to life
I can't understand the ease she pulled away her hand
This time in my life I was hurt enough to care
I guess from now on I'll be careful what I share
Ooh can you feel the same
Ooh ya gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Yeah feel it comin' in
The mountains win again

A pocket is no place for a smile anyway
Someday I will find love again will blow my mind
Maybe it will be that love that got away from me
Is there a line to write that could make you cry tonight
Can you feel the same
Yeah ya gotta love the pain
Ooh it looks like rain again
Ooh feel it comin' in
The mountains win again
Ooh the mountains win again

LINY loves music! I was shocked that I actually know most of these! I guess, besides at one point in my life being talented at singing, I know "music" is just expression (and no action involved)--probably why I love all types and use it as an escape--probably too much.

Shul--what a great idea for a thread!

GC--they're not named "Coldplay" for nothin, huh?

RobbyB-- best song out there right now

Comfortably Numb--I'm trying so so hard to find a "happy" song that Robert Smith wrote...just ain't happenin! ("Push" is actually one of my favorite all-timers along with a B-side called "A Few Hours After This.") P.S. One of my favorite all-time lines: "We're just two lost souls living in a fish bowl, year after year."

Juke1225--I know who Wheatus are, but I've never heard that version (it's actually a cover from Erasure.)

NCW--love the diversity! Of course, Crazy Train a LINY fave. I always found it amazing how Ozzy could find these absolutely incredible guitarists! And John? Seems like one of the coolest, most down to earth, fun musicians. (And the music ain't bad either--a rare combo!)

I had to go back over here...I had a very bad day yesterday. Once again, you all have given me a pick-me-up this morning. Thanks!

LINY - I'm having a hard time listening to Coldplay stull - and the sparrow took one of their CDs with her when she went. It was a gift I bought her during the false recovery (whoops)!

Otis Redding did - for my money - the theme song for plan A:

If I were the sun way way up there
I'd glow with love most everywhere.
I'll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I'm still around.

That's how strong my love is.

I'll be the weeping willow drowning in my tears
And you can go swimming when you are here.
I'll be the rainbow after the tears are gone,
Wrap you in my colors and keep you warm.

That's how strong my love is.

I'll be the liferaft when you're lost at sea,
When the waves roll you grab hold of me.
I'll be the lighthouse when you drift in the night,
Point yourself my way and it'll be all right

(verse added by graycloud)

That's how strong my love is

I'll be the ocean so deep and wide,
And catch all the tears whenever you cry.
I'll be the breeze after the storm is gone,
To dry your eyes and love you warm.

That's how strong my love is.

Peter Gabriel:

"I Grieve"

it was only one hour ago
it was all so different then
there’s nothing yet has really sunk in
looks like it always did
this flesh and bone
it’s just the way that you were tied in
now there’s no-one home

i grieve - for you
you leave - me
‘so hard to move on
still loving what’s gone
they say life carries on
carries on and on and on and on

the news that truly shocks is the empty empty page
while the final rattle rocks its empty empty cage
and i can’t handle this!

i grieve - for you
you leave - me
let it out and move on
missing what’s gone
they say life carries on
they say life carries on and on and on

life carries on
in the people i meet
in everyone that’s out on the street
in all the dogs and cats
in the flies and rats
in the rot and the rust
in the ashes and the dust
life carries on and on and on and on
life carries on and on and on

it’s just the car that we ride in
a home we reside in
the face that we hide in
the way we are tied in
and life carries on and on and on and on
life carries on and on and on

did I dream this belief?
or did i believe this dream?
now i can find relief
i grieve"

And for a really inspiring song of his:

Peter Gabriel, "Make Tomorrow"

Put on the dress in which you were married.
Pull down the veil til your eyes are hid.
Can you remember where we both came from?
Let us do as we did!

Look at tomorrow today
Making tomorrow today...

Put back the photo under your window.
Put down the phone that you hold in your hand.
Put away these things that stand in between us.
Let us be what we can!

When it seems
Hopeless!
When it seems
Hopeless!

Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow today...

What better measure of what you were doing here,
Then what you can leave behind?
All the children of your children's children.
Do you ever think what they're going to find?

Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Where the sacred meet the scared!
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Where the dreamer's dream is dared!

In each of us,
A dream can burn like the sun!
Let's try it all one more time,
To get this lesson learned!

Sitting up in a spaceship,
Looking down at the Earth.
You wonder what they're all stuggling for?
What's it all really worth?

Making tomorrow today
Making tomorrow today
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow

2long -

I must have listened to Gabriel's "I Grieve a hundre times when my dad died. Also, Stings "Let Your Soul Be You Pilot" it is really beautiful too -

When you're down, and their counting.
When your secrets all gound out
When your troubles take to mounting,
When the map you have leads you to doubt
When there's no information
And the compass turns to nowhere
that you know well

When the doctors failed to heal you
When no medicine chest can make you well
When no councel leads to comfort
When there are no more lies they can tell
No more useless information
And the compass spins
The compass spins between heaven and hell
Let your soul be you pilot
Let your sould guide you, he'll guide you well

And your eyes turn towards the window pane
To the lights upon the hill
The distance seems so strange to you now
And the dark room seems so still

Let your pain be my sorrow
Let your tears be my tears too
Let your courage be my model
That the north you find will be true
When there's no more useless information
And the compass turns to nowhere that
you know well
Let your soul be your pilot
Let your soul guide you
Let your soul guide you
Let your soul guide you upon your way.

Turnaround, every now and then I get a
little bit lonely and you're never coming around
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit restless and I dream of something wild
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit helpless and I'm lying like a child in your arms
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit angry and I know I've got to get out and cry
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit terrified but then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround, every now and then I know
you'll never be the boy you always you wanted to be
Turnaround, every now and then I know
you'll always be the only boy who wanted me the way that I am
Turnaround, every now and then I know
there's no one in the universe as magical and wonderous as you
Turnaround, every now and then I know
there's nothing any better and there's nothing I just wouldn't do
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

My favorite at least this past month -

How Far - Martina McBride - I like this one because I havent a clue what is coming next

Heaven - Los Lonely Boys - because if I ever free my heart from this WH I will truly find Heaven within myself...all this pain will be gone.

Here's Patsy Cline singing for the BW:

Strange, how you stopped loving me
How you stopped needing me
When she came along
Oh, how strange
Strange, you changed like night and day
Just up and walked away
When she came along
Oh, how strange

Well, I guess that I was just your puppet
You held on a string
To think I thought you really loved me
But look what thoughts can bring
Strange, you're still in all my dreams
Oh what a funny thing
I still care for you
Oh, how strange

How strange...

go to sleepy little baby
go to sleepy little baby

your momma's gone away and your daddy's gonna stay
didn't leave nobody but the baby

go to sleepy little baby
go to sleepy little baby

everybody's gone in the cotton and the corn
didn't leave nobody but the baby

you're a sweet little baby
you're a sweet little baby

honey in the rock and the sugar don't stop
gonna bring a bottle to the baby

don't you weep pretty baby
don't you weep pretty baby

she's long gone with her red shoes on
gonna need another lovin' baby

go to sleep little baby
go to sleep little baby

you and me and the devil makes three
don't need no other lovin' baby

go to sleep little baby
go to sleep little baby

come lay bones on the alabaster stones
and be my everlovin baby

I love singing that one. It's pretty and back-country....reminds me of mountain singing.

GC - It's Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss & Gillian Welch. It's on the O Brother CD. I love mountian music. Makes me think of driving thru Arkansas and Kentucky....warm fuzzy-ness.

'Course, I love almost all music (cept gansta rap)...I can't seem to limit myself to one genre. Ask me about the year I saw the Beach Boys, Twisted Sister & Ratt, and The Smiths....my friends thought I was exceptionally odd.

You were my wife, my life, my hopes and dreams
For you to understand what this means, I shall explain
I stood all the jealousy, all the *****in' too
Yes, I'd forget it all once in bed with you
Ooo darling how could we end up like this?
Oh baby let me reminisce

Oh and when we, woo, stopped the hands of time
You set my soul on fire, my one desire
Was to love you and think of you with pride
And keep you satisfied, oh baby oh baby
We could not bear the mental strain
Leave you, I laugh at men too
Now you see how much you hurt me
But if you ever need me, I'll be by your side
Though the many happy times we had
Can never really outweigh the bad
Oh I'll never love nobody like I loved you baby

It's time for us to say farewell, farewell my darlin'
Maybe we'll meet down the line
It's too late for you and me, it's too late for you and I
Much too late for you to cry
It's too late for you and me, much too late for you and I
It's too late for you and me, much too late for you to cry baby
Ah we tried, God knows we tried
Now it's too late to live and love and ah it's too late baby
It's too late for you and me, much too late for you to cry
Oh oh ohhh it's much too late
Well, all we can do is, we can both try to be happy...

TILL I CAN MAKE IT ON MY OWN - Kenny Rogers

I'll need time to get you off my mind
and I may sometimes bother you
try to be in touch with you
even ask too much of you
from time to time.

Now and then
Lord, you know I'll need a friend
till I get used to losing you
let me keep on using you
till I can make it on my own.

I'll get by but no matter how I try
there'll be times you know I'll call
chances are, my tears will fall
and I'll have no pride at all
from time to time.

But they say
oh, there'll be a brighter day
but till then I lean on you
that's all I mean to do
till I can make it on my own.

Surely, someday I'll look up
and see the morning sun
without another lonely night behind me
then I'll know I'm over you
and all my crying's done
no more hurting memories can find me.

But till then ...
Lord, you know, I'm gonna need a friend
till I get used to losing you ...

Okay gals. Ultimate song about BW vs OW confrontation! Dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah!!!! Ready? -------------------- Reba McEntyre & Linda Davis singing --

Does He Love You?

Reba:
I’ve known about you
For a while now
When he leaves me
He wears a smile now
As soon as he’s away from me
In your arms is where he wants to be

Linda
But you’re the one he rushes home to
You’re the one he gave his name to
I never see his face
In the early morning light
You have his mornings, his daytime, and sometimes I have his nights

(Back & forth between them - Reba starts)
Does he love you (Does he love you)
Like he loves me (Like he loves me)
Does he think of you (Does he think of you)
When he's holding me (Together)
And does he whisper (Does he whisper)
All his fantasies (Together)
Does he love you (Does he love you)
Like he's been loving me? (Together)

Linda
But when he’s with me
He says he needs me
And that he wants me
That he believes in me

Reba
And when I’m in his arms
Oh he swears there’s no one else
Is he deceiving me
Or am I deceiving myself

Linda
Am I deceiving myself?

Chorus

Reba
Oh, shouldn't I lose my temper?

Linda
Oh, and shouldn't I be ashamed?

Reba
Cause I have everything to lose

Linda
And I, I have nothing to gain

Chorus

Reba
Oh, does he love you?

This song made me cry everytime I heard it & even now almost a year later. But I think it is the ultimate confrontational song between the BW & OW. Doncha think? Pretty much sums up how each of us feels.

I didn't forget you guys though. Here's a good revenge song for you by Garth Brooks.

Papa Loves Mama

Papa drove a truck nearly all his life
You know it drove mama crazy being a trucker’s wife
The part she couldn’t handle was the being alone
I guess she needed more to hold than just a telephone
Papa called mama each and every night
Just to ask her how she was and if us kids were alright
Mama would wait for that call to come in
When daddy’d hang up she was gone again.

Mama was a looker
Lord, how she shined
Papa was a good'n
But the jealous kind
Papa loved mama
Mama loved men
Mama's in the graveyard
Papa's in the pen.

Well, it was bound to happen and one night it did
Papa came home and it was just us kids
He had a dozen roses and a bottle of wine
If he was lookin’ to surprise us, he was doin’ fine
I heard him cry for mama up and own the hall
Then I h heard a bottle break against the bedroom wall
That old diesel engine made an eerie sound
When papa fired it up and headed into town.

Well, the picture in the paper showed the scene real well
Papa’s rig was buried in the local motel
The desk clerk said he saw it all real clear
He never hit the brakes and he was shifting gears.

Chorus

Thought maybe you'd get a good laugh out of that one! I know some of you are picturing it! Stop that now!!!

"Back to the Island" -Leon Russell

"Now the day is gone and I sit alone and think of you, girl
What can I do without you in my life?
I guess that our guessing game just had to end that way
The hardest one to lose of all the games we played

But the time is past for living in a dream world
Lying to myself can't make that scene
Of wondering if you love me or just making a fool of me
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island

Chorus:

And watch the sun go down (sit and watch the sun go down)
Hear the sea roll in (listen to the sea roll in)
But I'll be thinking of you (yes, and I'll be thinking of you)
And how it might have been (thinking how it might have been)
Hear the night birds cry (listen to the night birds cry)
Watch the sunset die (sit and watch the sunset die)
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island

Well all the fun has died, It's raining in my heart
I know down in my soul I'm really gonna miss you
But it had to end this way with all the games we played
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island"
