Forever and Ever Amen - Randy Travis (I'm singing this one the next time I get married, to my WW or someone else)
You may think that I'm talking foolish You've heard that I'm wild & I'm free You may wonder how I can promise you now This love that I feel for you always will be You're not just time that I'm killing I'm no longer one of those guys As sure as I live this love that I give Is gonna be yours until the day that I die -- Oh baby
chorus...
I'm gonna love you forever, forever & ever amen As long as old men sit & talk about the weather As long as old women sit & talk about old men If you wonder how long I'll be faithfull I'll be happy to tell you again I'm gonna love you forever & ever, forever & ever Amen
They say that time takes it's toll on a body Makes a young girl's brown hair turn grey But honey, I don't care, I ain't in love with your hair And if it all fell out well I'd love you anyway They say time can play tricks on a memory Make people forget things they knew well it's easy to see it's happening to me I've already forgotten every woman but you --- Oh darlin'
chorus......
Just listen to how this song ends I'm gonna love you forever & ever, forever & ever Forever & ever, Forever & ever Amen
What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

[color:"purple"]What Mattered Most
I thought I knew the girl so well If she was sad I couldn't tell I missed the point, I missed the signs So if she's gone the fault is mine I know, I know a whole lot of little things And even though I could list them one by one She would still be gone
Her eyes are blue, her hair is long In '64 she was born in Baton Rouge Her favorite song is "In My Life" I memorized her every move I knew her books, her car, her clothes But I paid no attention to what mattered most
I never asked, she never said And when she cried I turned my head She dreamed her dreams behind closed doors That made them easy to ignore And I know, I know I missed the forest for the trees All I have to show oh when she walked out the door Are cold facts and nothing more
Her eyes are blue, her hair is long In '64 she was born in Baton Rouge Her favorite song is "In My Life" I memorized her every move I knew her books, her car, her clothes But I paid no attention to what mattered most
Her eyes are blue, her hair is long In '64 she was born in Baton Rouge Her father's tall, her mother's gone She moved out west when she was two The way she laughed, the way she loved Oh my God what did I do .

COME ON HOME (by The Indigo Girls)
Dark clouds are comin' in like an army Soon the sky will open up and disarm me And you will go, just like you've gone before One sad soldier off to war Enemies that only you can see
Dishes stacked, the table cleared It's always like the scene of the Last Supper here You speak so cryptically, but that's not news to me The flood is here, it will carry you And I've got work to do
Come on home The team you're hitched to has a mind of its own It's just the forces of your past you've fought before Come back here and shut the door I'm stacking sandbags against the river of your troubles
There is fire, and there is lust Some would trade it all for someone they could trust There's a bag of silver for a box of nails It's so simple the betrayal Though it's known to change the world and what's to come
Come on home The team you're hitched to has a mind of its own It's just the forces of your past you've fought before Don't you recognise them any more I'm stacking sandbags against the river of your troubles
There's the given and the expected I count my blessings while I eye what I've neglected Is this for better, is this for worse You're all jammed up and the dam's about to burst
I hear the owl in the night I realise that some things never are made right But by some will we string together here Days to months and months to years What if everything we have adds up to nothing?
Come on home The team you're hitched to has a mind of its own It's just the forces of your past you've fought before Come back here and shut the door I'm stacking sandbags against the river of your troubles
(makes me cry whenever I hear it).

I haven't had time yet to look through all the song listed. I will, though. Each one certainly tells a story. Music has always been an outlet for me. Without it I would have died, at least figuratively. Here's mine to add to the growing list. I'm precious
"One" sung by Fait Hill
I try with all my mind but still don't understand why We ever let it get so out of hand My arms are reaching out and holding on tight To what has always felt so right It's hard to figure out the answers to the questions Wind blow the lights, you're goin' in separate directions
One is breaking into two And my heart is turning blue And you still don't get it do you, do you I thought we had all the love to go it for the long run So before the damage is done Let's start back over at one
Lights out when every evening used to get so hot Now we got so damned distracted we forgot how To lock the world away and just get lost in Where you end and where I begin Love is strong but it's so easy to divide So boy let's think about How much is on the line
One is breaking into two And my heart is turning blue And you still don't get it do you, do you I thought we had all the love to go it for the long run So before the damage is done Let's start back over at one

Youth by Goldfinger
In my life, been all the places That I dreamed of since I was a kid Bury the past, I'm getting on with Things I never thought I'd get through
So now I know
I don't know anything Except I notice that You're still here I don't want anything Well that's a lie because I want you here with me
I made mistakes, I've done some things That I just wish I could go back and change But now I'm here, and now I know that I Can learn from those things that I've done
So now I know
I don't know anything Except I notice that You're still here I don't want anything Well that's a lie because I want you here with me
Don't want it back I like who I've become I'm right on track I'm feeling half as young As I did when I was a kid
In my life, been all the places That I dreamed of since I was a kid
I don't know anything Except I notice that You're still here I don't want anything Well that's a lie because I want you here with me
So now I know

This song is on one of my exercise DVDs. I like to torture myself by listening to it as I lift weights.
Unbreak My Heart - sung by Toni Braxton?
Don't leave me in all this pain Don't leave me out in the rain Come back and bring back my smile Come and take these tears away I need your arms to hold me now The nights are so unkind Bring back those nights when I held you beside me Un-break my heart Say you'll love me again Undo this hurt you caused When you walked out the door And walked outta my life Un-cry these tears I cried so many nights Un-break my heart My heart
Take back that sad word good-bye Bring back the joy to my life Don't leave me here with these tears Come and kiss this pain away I can't forget the day you left Time is so unkind And life is so cruel without you here beside me
Un-break my heart Say you'll love me again Undo this hurt you caused When you walked out the door And walked outta my life Un-cry these tears I cried so many nights Un-break my heart My heart
Don't leave me in all this pain Don't leave me out in the rain Bring back the nights when I held you beside me
Un-break my heart Say you'll love me again Undo this hurt you caused When you walked out the door And walked outta my life Un-cry these tears I cried so many, many nights Un-break my
Un-break my heart Come back and say you love me Un-break my heart Sweet darlin' Without you I just can't go on Can't go on

Here's one from the days of big hair and leg warmers (ahhh, the '80s).
Shattered Dreams - Johnny Hates Jazz
So much for your promises They died the day you let me go Caught up in a web of lies But it was just too late to know
I thought it was you Who would stand by my side
And now you've given me, given me Nothing but shattered dreams, shattered dreams Feel like i could run away, run away From this empty heart
You said you'd die for me
Woke up to reality And found the future not so bright I dreamt the impossible That maybe things could work out right
I thought it was you Who would do me no wrong
(chorus)
From this empty heart
I thought it was you who said you'd die for love
(chorus)
Oh no no no - you said you'd die for me Oh oh, oh oh, die for me So much for your promises

This one breaks my heart every time I hear it:
"Fallen" - Sarah McLachlan
Heaven bend to take my hand And lead me through the fire Be the long awaited answer To a long and painful fight
Truth be told I've tried my best But somewhere along the way I got caught up in all there was to offer And the cost was so much more than I could bear
Though I've tried, I've fallen... I have sunk so low I have messed up Better I should know So don't come round here And tell me I told you so...
We all begin with good intent Love was raw and young We believed that we could change ourselves The past could be undone But we carry on our backs the burden Time always reveals The lonely light of morning The wound that would not heal It's the bitter taste of losing everything That I have held so dear.
I've fallen... I have sunk so low
Heaven bend to take my hand Nowhere left to turn I'm lost to those I thought were friends To everyone I know Oh they turn their heads embarassed Pretend that they don't see But it's one missed step One slip before you know it And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed
Though I've tried, I've fallen... I have sunk so low I have messed up Better I should know So don't come round here And tell me I told you so...

A little trivia. The guy who wrote "Please Remember Me" that Tim McGraw sang (lyric on this thread page 9 I think) was interviewed on the radio. He said he wrote that song when he thought his relationship was over and there was no chance he would ever been forgiven. (Plan B??) But he was wrong the relationship was saved and stronger then ever according to him. He has a another song now, performed by Keith Urban. Sounds like a FWH invested in recovery.
Making Memories of Us (written by Rodney Crowell)
I'm gonna be here for you baby I'll be a man of my word Speak the language in a voice that you have never heard I wanna sleep with you forever and I wanna die in your arms in a cabin by a meadow where the wild bees swarm And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you And I'll earn your trust making memories of us
I wanna honor your mother I wanna learn from your pa I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw I wanna stand out in crowd for you, a man among men I wanna make your world better then its ever been And I'm gonna love you like nobody's loved you And I'll earn your trust making memories of us
We'll follow the rainbow wherever the 4 winds blow And there'll be a new day comin' your way I'm gonna be here for you from now on This you know some how You've been stretched to the limits but it's alright now
And I'm gonna make you a promise If there's life after this I'm gonna be there to meet you with a warm, wet kiss And I'm gonna love you like nobody's loved you And I'll earn your trust making memories of us

[color:"purple"] MYSTERY
Indigo Girls
Each time you’d pull down the driveway I wasn’t sure when I would see you again Yours was a twisted, blind-sided highway No matter which road you took then Oh, you set up your place in my thoughts Moved in and made my thinking crowded Now we’re out in the back with the barking dogs My heart the red sun Your heart the moon clouded I could go crazy on a night like tonight When summer’s beginning to give up her fight And every thought’s a possibility And the voices are heard, but nothing is seen Why do you spend this time with me Maybe an equal mystery.
So what is love then, Is it dictated, or chosen? Does it sing like the hymns of 1000 years, Or is it just pop emotion? And if it ever was there and it left, Does it mean it was never true? And to exist it must elude, Is that why I think these things of you? I could go crazy on a night like tonight When summer’s beginning to give up her fight And every thought’s a possibility And the voices are heard, but nothing is seen Why do you spend this time with me May be an equal mystery.
But you like the taste of danger It shines like sugar on your lips And you like to stand in the line of fire Just to show you can shoot straight from you hip There must be a 1000 things you would die for I can hardly think of two But not everything is better spoken aloud- Not when I’m talking to you
Oh the pirate gets the ship and the girl tonight Breaks a bottle to christen her Basking in the exploits of her thief She’s a very good listener Maybe that’s all that we need Is to meet in the middle of impossibility We’re standing at opposite poles Equal partners in a mystery;
We’re standing at opposite poles Equal partners in a mystery.

"Hold on Hold on to yourself For this is gonna hurt like hell Hold on Hold on to yourself You know that only time will tell What is it in me that refuses to believe This isn’t easier than the real thing My love You know that you’re my best friend You know I’d do anything for you My love Let nothing come between us My love for you is strong and true
Am I in heaven here or am i... At the crossroads I am standing So now you’re sleeping peaceful I lie awake and pray That you’ll be strong tomorrow and we’ll See another day and we will praise it And love the light that brings a smile Across your face
Oh God if you’re out there won’t you hear me I know that we’ve never talked before Oh God the man I love is leaving Won’t you take him when he comes to your door
Am I in heaven here or am I in hell At the crossroads I am standing So now you’re sleeping peaceful I lie awake and pray That you’ll be strong tomorrow and we’ll See another day and we will praise it And love the light that brings a smile Across your face...
Hold on Hold on to yourself For this is gonna hurt like hell"

I heard this song for the first time in a long time when my kids were watching Shrek 2. Sometimes I get so tired trying to be the 'hero' for my kids and trying to fight for my marriage and I wish someone would fight for me for a change.
Holding Out for a Hero - sung by Bonnie Tyler
Where have all the good men gone And where are all the gods? Where's the street-wise Hercules To fight the rising odds? Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed? Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need
(Chorus)
I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night He's gotta be strong And he's gotta be fast And he's gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light He's gotta be sure And it's gotta be soon And he's gotta be larger than life
Somewhere after midnight In my wildest fantasy Somewhere just beyond my reach There's someone reaching back for me Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
(Chorus)
Up where the mountains meet the heavens above Out where the lightning splits the sea I would swear that there's someone somewhere Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain And the storm and the flood I can feel his approach Like the fire in my blood

Love's Recovery
Words and Music: Emily Saliers
During the time of which I speak It was hard to turn the other cheek To the blows of insecurity Feeding the cancer of my intellect The blood of love soon neglected Lay dying in the strength of its impurity
And all the friends we thought were so together They've all gone and left each other in search of fairer weather I sit here in our storm and drink a toast To the slim chance of love's recovery
There I am in younger days Star gazing, painting picture-perfect maps Of how my life and love would be Not counting the unmarked paths of misdirection My compass, faith in love's perfection I missed ten million miles of road I should have seen
Meanwhile our friends we thought were so together Left each other one by one on the road to fairer weather And we sit here in our storm and drink a toast To the slim chance of love's recovery
Rain-soaked and voice-choked Like silence screaming in a dream I searched for an absolute distinction Not content to bow and bend To the winds of culture that swoop like vultures Eating us away...eating us away...eating us away to our extinction
Oh how I wish I were a trinity So that if I lost a part of me I'd still have two of the same to live But nobody gets a lifetime rehearsal As specks of dust, we're universal [color:"purple"] To let this love survive and be the greatest gift that we could give:
Tell all the friends who think they're so together [color:"purple"] That these are ghosts and mirages, all these thoughts of fairer weather.
Though it's storming now, I feel safe within the arms Of Love's Discovery

This is a wonderful thread! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> The version from the Shrek 2 soundtrack is covered by Frou Frou and will play at our Renewal; we were just dancing to it tonight, and my "Mr Incredible" was singing it to me! It was hilarious. btw he's signed up, with his very own MB account. He tends to lay low, though, so I can't guarantee any superhero sightings. I heard this song for the first time in a long time when my kids were watching Shrek 2. Sometimes I get so tired trying to be the 'hero' for my kids and trying to fight for my marriage and I wish someone would fight for me for a change.

Here's my contribution to the Lyrics thread.
When I was hopeless:
Limp Bizkit from Significant Other CD REARRANGED
Lately I've been skeptical Silent when I would used to speak Distant from all around me Who witness me fail and become weak Life is overwhelming Heavy is the head that wears the crown I'd love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down
But you don't understand when I'm attempting to explain Because you know it all and I guess things will never change But you might need my hand when falling in your hole Your disposition I'll remember when I'm letting go of You and me we're through And rearranged
It seems that you're not satisfied There's too much on your mind So you leave and I can't believe all the [censored] that I find Life is overwhelming Heavy is the head that wears the crown I'd love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down
But you don't understand when I'm attempting to explain Because you know it all and I guess things will never change But you might need my hand when falling in your hole Your disposition I'll remember when I'm letting go of You and me we're through And rearranged
You're no good For me Thank God its over
You make believe That nothing is wrong until you're cryin' You make believe That life is so long until you're dyin' You make believe That nothing is wrong until you're cryin' Cryin' on me You make believe That life is so long until you're dyin' Dyin' on me!
You think that everybody's the same I don't think that anybody's like you (You ruin everything and you kept [censored]' with me until its over and I won't be the same) You think that everybody's the same I don't think that anybody's like you Be the same
Just think about it You'll get it ###
When I am hopeful, a lot more lately:
Peter Gabriel from the US CD. "Only Us"
Only Us [x3]
It wasn't in the words that kept sticking in their throats It wasn't with the angels in their quilted coats These battered wings still kick up dust Seduced by the noise and the bright things that glisten I knew all the time I should shut up and listen And I'm finding my way home from the great escape
The further on I go, oh the less I know I can find only us breathing Only us sleeping Only us dreaming Only us
I hear you calling me Yes I hear you calling me Home from the great escape Yes I can read you loud and clear
The further on I go, oh the less I know Friend or foe, there's only us
The further on I go, oh the less I know I can find only us breathing
I'm coming home again, home again And I hear you calling me home again I am coming home again only us, only us, only us, only us..... ###
Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation (new one) "Shine It All Around"
This is the land where I live Paint it all over golden Take a little sunshine, spread it all around This is the love that I give These are the arms for the holding Turn on your love light, shine it all around x2
Shine it all around, Shine it all around
These are the times of my life Bright and strong and golden This is the way that I choose when the deal goes down This is the world that I love Painted all over troubled Take a little sunshine, shine it all around Send a little sign now, spread it all around now Shine it all around now, when the deal goes down now
Shine it all around
This is the heart of the man This is the heart of the matter Break a little bread now, spread it all around Come on break a little bread now, all around
Shine it all around, Shine it all around Shine it all around, Shine it all around
Send a little sun now, spread it all around now Shine it all around now, when the deal goes down now Shine it all around now, when the deal goes down now Shine it all around now, when the deal goes down now

There’s a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis
(Kirsty Maccoll/Philip Rambow)
Oh darling why d’you talk so fast Another evening just flew past tonight And now the daybreak’s coming in And I can’t win and it ain’t right You tell me all you’ve done and seen And all the places you have been without me Well I don’t really want to know But I’ll stay quiet and then I’ll go And you won’t have no cause to think about me
There’s a guy works down the chip shop swears he’s Elvis Just like you swore to me that you’d be true There’s a guy works down the chip shop swears he’s Elvis But he’s a liar and I’m not sure about you
Oh darling you’re so popular You were the best thing new in Hicksville With your mohair suits and foreign shoes Lou says you changed your pickup for a Seville And now I’m lying here alone ’cause you’re out there on the phone to some star in New York I can hear you laughing now And I can’t help feeling that somehow You don’t mean anything you say at all
There’s a guy works down the chip shop swears he’s Elvis Just like you swore to me that you’d be true There’s a guy works down the chip shop swears he’s Elvis But he’s a liar and I’m not sure about you
