Thanks for offering me a glimpse into the mind of the almost-FWS yesterday, KiwiJ.
I think the sparrow is on the brink of getting dumped by OM, but he seems to be uncertain, and knowing her, I think she'll fight to keep from losing him.
If OM decides to break it off with her for real, and if she loses that fight, how much will her pride get in the way, assuming she entertains the thought of coming back to me? I know everybody is different, but I think pride is a big obstacle here. Is there anything I can do with my plan A to make this hurdle easier for her to get over? Thanks,
GC

GC, gosh, you've put me on the spot here.
BTW cool getting the border terrier. They are such cool little dogs and he will provide so much companionship. One thing dogs REALLY know how to give is unconditional love and he will help you so much. And a puppy, so cute
If, and I say if, the sparrow comes back the wounded pride will be paramount over everything. It's such a human thing to hate being rejected. It cuts to the core of who we are.
So.... if you can say "I understand you've been hurt but I'm here and I'll fight for you because I love you unconditionally." I think this will help. The one thing my H did which pushed me away even further was say "You are the only one for me, you always have been and you always will be." It just made me feel guilty and horrible.
When I said this is your chance to make it or break it I meant that if you are looking in the long term, 50 years, what's 6, 7, 8 months being patient.
I spoke to Cutenothot on this. Rob saw this as a blip on the radar screen of a 30 year marriage and if you're in this for the long haul, that's how you have to see it.
BTW not quite 30 years yet. 30 years on 23 August 2004. What a milestone and I had my doubts last year that we'd even make it.
